Engine Work In Scotland

Recommended Posts

Kane

Hi

I'm in the middle of rebuilding an mi and am looking for a decent machinist in Scotland. I am going to be getting all the usual bit done 3 angle seats, back cut valves, block decked etc etc.

The main issue about the work that I am looking to get is that the block itself has some corrosion around the liner seats. I have contacted one machinist and they have said that they use silicone to patch up this sort of problem although I am not completely convinced this would be a suitable long term solution, has anyone used this method before?

I have also heard from Miles on here that there is an alloy putty from Wurth that sets hard enough to be machined which sounds more reliable. Does anybody know of a shop up around Scotland that uses this stuff?

Cheers

Kane

There are a few different epoxy putties on the market but the King of them is Belzona. Find someone who is using it.

Thanks Peter I'll have a look and see what I can find.

That's a good point and probably the next route that I will consider if I don't end up finding someone up around Scotland although as I am trying to keep the already rising costs of the rebuild/conversion down I'm hoping I won't have to send it down south.

From experience I can recommend Engine Resources in Dundee.

I've had a chat with the guys at engine resource and they seem capable of doing the work apart from the block repair that I am looking for. Their technique is to use silicone to seal the liners as I mentioned above but I am not sure on this. I will probably be sending the other parts up there to get done but not the block/liners. Thanks for the recommendation.
