Opinions On Potential New Car Purchase

Recommended Posts

Gman

I'm bored of the S2000 and so I'm in the market for a new car. Now I know the S2000 is on the cusp of being a hairdressers car, but I'm worried that the car I'm looking at might start people thinking I'll shortly leave my wife for a fella.

However, I do think it looks nuts, and the reviews its getting are particularly good. Also, the sound on overrun alone makes me want one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVIyLGPCxws) (skip to 40 secs or so)

What's do you think of it? I know that if I like it then I should go for it, but I'm also thinking of the resale given that it might appeal to a limited market. However, the same applies to the Megane R26R, and try to find one of those for sale these days!

It's a fair bit of cash to spend on a mini, or any car for that matter. But this is the only car that currently floats my boat.

Buy a 996

Why? They have terrible reliability issues, plus they have running costs of a 65k car. The mini comes with 5 years free servicing!

There are plenty of other quicker motors out there, evo's, Porsches, TVRs et al. However, I want something that doesn't cost the earth to run, and have my arse twitching every time I hear a knock or rattle.

I've thought about Rangies (don't need anything that big for the mo), S3's (dull) and plenty of others. But I just can't find anything I fancy, and seeing as I always regret selling my old Clio Trophy, I though it might be a good idea to get something similar, but with a few more creature comforts (heated seats/climate/phone prep).

I had a cooper when they 1st came out, was a awesome little( maybe not little) car. the handling out of the box is very very good, the noise with a big cone filter is awesome. you could throw it hard at most corners and it would go round, was one of the best cars for fun I've owned.

I think if you want one, go for it. Just try and get one that looks aggressive so it stands out from all the na coopers driven on the school run by women :D

BMW Z4 3.0si

Or the M version!!

Common as muck when you actually think about how many you see on the roads, but with the big engine it makes it less of a hairdresser car... A close friend just bought one, I was impressed by it!!

E46 M3?

I've recentlyy taken the plunge and so far can't fault it. Couldn't think of anything else at the price point.

Admittedly it's a bit of a jack of trades, master of none but ticks all my boxes.

Have you looked into the crash ratings of the E46?? Put me right off getting one a few years ago

I can recommend an E46 M3 and Z4M wholeheartedly - do it, you won't regret it!

That said my wife's R56 Cooper S is the bollocks too, if a little feminine.

Not my family car

The m3 isn't my family car. It's just one of my toys.

Assumption and all that......tut tut.
