Few Cheap Ctis On Gumtree...hmmm Too Cheap?

Recommended Posts

JamesE

Just been looking around on Gumtree and there seems to be a few dirt cheap ctis on, isn't this supposed to be soft top time and hence top prices? One on at £400, one at £600 and one at £700.

Anyone been to look at these? Surely too good to be true??!!

Over winter they're worth about 50p so £400 for a scrutter is about right IMO

CTi's are a few years behind GTi's when it comes to pricing still, and as such, it's only the late 1.9 CTi's and tidy, low mileage 1.6 examples that seem to be worth any real money. A typical slightly ropey 1.6 is only really worth a few hundred quid even now.

Exactly, it's going back a couple of years now but my mums k plate 1900 cti, 63k and absolutely immaculate was £1200 at the start of summer!

Most cti's will have shagged roofs so thats probably one reason they don't fetch much.

Id personally love one and maybe once my gti is sorted I'll keep my eyes open for a nice one.

Whilst on the subject of CTi's, I have one that needs a little work up for sale if anyone fancies it?

They are under valued I think. No way are they a GTI to drive but still have some of the 205 GTI character.

Their time will come, I'm sure.

Does anyone have a buyer's guide? I'm presuming bodywork and roof are the main areas to check?

Getting parts such as door/window rubbers etc are a real pain now, so bear that in mind too.

Same as GTI but in addition:

Rear lower roof support corrosion (below rear window)

'Hockey sticks' (in roof fabric and give stiffness where the rood connects to the bodywork on the 1/4 panels)

Carpet condition (very rare)

Door seal condition

Window rubbers as mentioned above

Yikes. Potential for disaster...

tbh the odd parts which are no longer produced is really annoying me.

Don't know if I could cope with another!

Owned my CTi 10 years now, great with the roof down, and frankly probably more watertight than most GTis. On it's second roof since new & that will probably need replacing in a year or two, but then it is 24 years old.

Ctis are or supposed to be galvanized so dont rust anywhere near as bad as gti's if at all mine seemingly had no rust when i got it 2 years ago but after removing all the trim to do a respray found 2 gigantic holes in the passenger door behind the trim. Doors tend to rot a big hole above the lower hinge too oddly

I have seen a few (including mine) that have rust bubbles apearing on the bottom corners of the windscreen.

Mine is going crusty in the top of the rear inner wing where I am assuming the drain has blocked and water has sat in it.

I am only up the road from you in walkington (near beverley) if you wanted to pop round I could show you a few pointers that I have seen while I was looking for mine / the nasty bits I have found since owning mine.

Never see the appeal with the cti but since owning 205's I've really grown to like them.. Really fancied one over the sunny bankholiday we've just had haha
