No, at least not imo.

I swapped the engine in a friends car a few years ago & the replacement engine was a XU5JA 1.6 with a 1.9 XU9JA head + cam fitted, the head had been skimmed before fitting but the performance wasn't as nice with the 1.9 cam fitted imo, it felt slightly flat by comparison.

I fitted it with a vernier pulley & timed it in correctly to try & get the best we could from it but it simply wasn't as nice.

I think j turnell also has experience of a 1.6 engine with a 1.9 cam, tbh once correctly timed in the performance difference is minute but it didn't rev as nicely with a 1.9 cam in imo.

What you want to know about pistons/rods ?

On a 8v piston and rod assembly is press fitted with an guideon pin without clips - not so easy to disassemble and assemble them , needs special tools .. pressing out can be done DIY , but pressing in is really tricky (i did both in and out , but if you're not so good with the tools - better to ask at the peugeot or some engine builders shop to do the job for you cos you're bound to break the pistons ..)

1.9 DKZ pistons , dished , 17/18cc IIRC ??

1.9 D6B pistons , dished , 15cc dish

1.9 DFZ pistons , dished , 9cc dish

1.9 D6A pistons , flat top , from an 405 SRi 1.9 8v

... the rods on all are the same length .

As Graham mentioned i ran this setup for a while and it did feel very flat, not something i'd recommend imo.

Hi!

I`m sure that the XU5JA (115 HP) has more inletcamlift than the XU9JA (130 HP) - you should mesure... So I would stay with the 1,6 cam!
