Metal Water Pipe

Recommended Posts

2052006

After about 6 years (it was one of the first things I had to buy after I bought the car!) it looks like the lower metal water pipe is on its last legs again. Before I buy another from Pug (I presume they're still available?), are they available in stainless or an alternative which won't crap itself in another 6 years?!

I suppose 6 years isn't too bad, but it's the sort of part which should really last longer.

Or any tips of how to 'rust proof' a new one. I'm guessing they might rust through from the inside too?

Bbm do one in stainless :)

I replaced mine back along with an OE one and going by the look of the old one it was probably the original 22 year old pipe. Therefore I'm confident I can get a good few years out of this one.

Having said that, I don't believe the stainless ones were available when I changed it, otherwise I would have gone for one as they are similar in price.

I'm thinking aloud here but couldn't you get a custom made silicone pipe and do away with it completely?

I once used a section of stainless pipe from a hover as a temp fix!

They cost less than the original pipe from Peugeot as well iirc, certainly much less than ebay.

I guess it's this one (from Samco's website):

205 Gti 1.6 / 1.9 Gti 1985-1992

TB3870

Coolant

1

CK3870

Single piece Lower Coolant Hose

However, I'm wondering if it would be suitable for a vts'd engined 205. If I recall correctly, the connection on the rear of the engine is different to that of an 8v? Then again, I have a feeling I may have just used the original 8v hose connecting the metal pipe to the water block? Can't remember!
