Looking To Start Some 'repo' Parts. Gauging Interest....

Recommended Posts

Mikey S

After ordering a 930973 window seal and learning that no pug dealer in europe (apparently) has a 931072 in stock, I'm currently looking at speaking to a few company's to see if anyone will undertake making these window seals.

I ideally need 3 things from you kind people,

A, A 931072 window seal. Long shot I know, but must be new for length etc.

B, Someone who would be kind enough to lend me that seal in order to use it as a template, and

C, A list of definite interested people who would want to purchase these.

I want to try and keep the costs as low as possible, hopefully around what peugeot charges so looking for as many people as possible to get on board.

I'll start the list:

I bought all the 931072 last year.

Just sold the last one from Luxembourg today to a friend who's chairman of an owners club.(It was more of a swap for a pair of front mud flaps new to be fair)

To answer your question i would give you my new one but my cars on the road all summer.

If it's around the Peugeot list I will buy one - but if they end up as £80 a piece, I'm out.

Personally I think it will be impossible to remake let alone be cost effective

Couldn't the one you bought just be mirrored?

If the correct manufacturers are approached it will be fairly simple to recreate. Volumes will be large though.

Not to put a dampener on this as it's great that people are stepping forward to get parts re-made.

PSCUK have found out with a few parts recently that the high tooling costs and the large quantities required mean that some ideas simply don't get off the ground unfortunately.

I hope you prove me wrong though - we did (well cRaig did) manage to re-manufacture the DLPs!

Lets just cut out the slight tinge of negativity on this thread already please gents. The way I look at it is if pug managed to get them manufactured, albeit in massive quantities, then I'm darn sure I could get some done, but to what cost I'm not sure, hence asking for numbers up front!

I will be using my own new window trim as a template and I'm kindly asking for people to volunteer a trim thats not being used, if possible. Mirroring a trim is possible but I'd like to get them absolutely spot on.

Keep it coming chaps.

When your offering a new part that was originally £20 at £80! Then I don't believe anyone is going to take you up on it, yes I can understand £10-£15 on top who doesn't.

I hope these can be reproduced and same goes for the other nfp parts.

As mentioned if you approach companies who specialise in this sort of manufacture then you will have no problems wit your brief.

You can always take a pass one in and explain its the other side you want - if they can't get their head around that then they've proved they probablt aren't up to it.

Volumes will need to be high, but if you're prepared to put the leg work in and get quotes based on varying quantities then you can come back and share findings and see if making the jump from one quantity to the other is viable.

Unfortunately if you came back with 20 finished ones you'd probably sell out quickly. Yet to buy 1000 and hope to sell them all straight away would obviously be nerving and unrealistic.

As they are now well and truly NFP - you'll always have people wanting them in drips and drabs but nobody expects you to invest loads in this.

Do please keep stabbing at this if you have the time. Supply has deminished and eventually demand will increase.

left and right from memory only differ from the way the ends are trimmed, it looks like one continuous length cut to fit.

Look, I haven't got any issue with you chap, but you've come onto this thread banging up the fact that you think this wont happen. I don't want or need negative vibes, and yes I can read that you've got a new one and that you would lend it if your asked, but I'd like to sort this in the next few weeks if possible and obviously it's now summer (apparently!) so your gonna be wanting to use your car so yours is abit of a no go isn't it?!

That might just make things a little easier. Cheers welshpug!

no probs mike, if I get a chance I'll grab a picture, do you still need need to measure up from?

I probably have one somewhere that would as usual be shrunk a little in length.

I've a new pass side in the packet if you want specific measurements of them in their prime with detailed photos of the ends?

If the ends are as I remember, what I would consider is perhaps approach a supplier with view to recreate the physical shape etc to start with and perhaps look to buy it in lengths then cut down to the single length required post production.

It might be that the consumer could in fact simply trim the ends to make it suitable for left or right as required.

Because let's face it - the pass ones won't be around for ever so no sooner could pattern drivers sides be produced - the pass sides could go the same way! Another potential set of tooling and production run.

You can see the radius and taper on the seal at the rear end around the vertical seal section, this one hasnt moved at all.

Here you can see a squarer profile to the way its cut and it has shrunk back a little bit.

I like the Idea of repo parts, any chance you could get the Cti window rubbers made?

what would you need?

I could provide a 3d Cad model of what they should look like by copying the original and stretching it to it's correct length.

edit:

was looking the web and found these guys:
