Remote Central Locking Not Working (Phase 2)

My 1993 Gti's remote central locking has suddenly stopped working.

I have checked the key fob battery, and it has plenty of health.

I'm currently using the key in the drivers door to lock unlock.

 

I have also noticed that only the 2 doors are locking\unlocking when using the key, but not the tailgate lock.

I can only unlock\lock the tailgate using the tailgate lock.

This may be a separate issue though.

 

I did have a water leak through the sunroof trim recently, which caused rain to drip down through to the interior light fitment, which also contains the sender? I believe for the remote locking.

I presume maybe water has caused a short on the little micro board in the roof housing?? I've dried it out.

 

I'm not sure if this part is available, and if it is, I guess the frequency would be different to the original, and I would need to get a kit (key fob and sender?)

 

I would appreciate any pointers, as to what maybe the problem with the remote locking not working.

Yup, new guts out of a key fob and receiver out of car.

 

You can use, 205, 405, XM, AX, old Renault.

Thanks for the info.

It's difficult and almost impossible finding both receiver and fob sender at the mo, so will have to use the key for now, (how old fashioned!)

 

The tailgate lock must have a loose connection, as it sometimes works when the tailgate is extended up. There is a purple and white connector block in the tailgate, not sure if this is to do with the wiper unit or the lock.

I'll have a play with the wires in there.

I just had the same issue, all was working perfectly until a small leak appeared from the IR sensor. Turns out it was the two washers on the sunroof handle had split and perished. I have replaced these now ( £3 delivered) and like you, need to search for new IR roof console and remote circuit board.

I do have a sensor and fob somewhere that I got from a 405 if anyone is interested? Will have to look for it though.

You can test your key fob by pointing the infra red eye into your mobile phone camera and pressing the button,you will see it light up on your phone.
