208 Review - Don't Compare To 205 Paradox

well well well, what have we here said the police man to the three wells...

Quite a paradox, when the article begins by saying it's unfair to compare the new 208 to the 205 because of a load of reasonably plausible safety reasons... then goes on to compare the new 208 to the 205 about eleventeen times. In fact, it seems to spend a greater proportion of time talking about the 205, than the 208...

for you're slightly smug self satisfied classic car owning eyes.. Ah and apparently the 1.6 is better, and good examples in standard form are worth 7k.

"Pistonheads reports the curing process on the 205's part-leather seats was so bad that one batch has begun sprouting hair"

You've got to love that kind of journalistic quality, eh? Pulitzer prize or what?

Interesting read. While I waiting at peugeot the other day I was reading through their own brochure on the 208 gti.

And that also mentioned and talked about the 205 in much more detail and length, and really it came across to me as it was the best and they can't supersede it.

Felt quite happy about It.

Or is it just yet another bit of marketing-off-past-glories, the retro bandwagon. See also: Mini. Beetle. Etc.

'The 205 was adored for its communicative, unassisted steering, its agility and unfussy engineering.'

No mention then that when it first came out, it looked great, still looks great and will carry on doing so. I can't imagine the same can be said about the 208, which resembles nothing more than a jelly mould to me.

All modern cars are like that though. It's as if designers get paid by the line, so they just keep adding things until someone tells them to stop.

I kinda like the sound of the 208 GTI. I certainly feel likes its an improvement and a step in the right direction.

if they took a slightly more type r philosophy, i think they could have been onto a winner.

in so far as not using massive heavy diamond cut wheels, and using lighter weight trim / less sound proofing, giving the engine a pop / bang burble burble mode.

regarding the body design, you're looking at as much of a duck tail as the aerodynamacists can get away with.

I had a brief look over one at Castle Come a few weekends ago, odd to see it rolls on the PE2 tyre which has in the most been discontinued in favour of the PS3, PE2 was developed by Michelin in conjunction with Renault Sport for the Clio 182, some 9 years ago! You'd think they'd go for the newest most advanced sport tyre, as used by their competitors no doubt...

Peugeot was asleep for too long, in the meantime unbeatable Renault Sport Clio 200 Cup came out on the market and since then nothing is the same. I feel bit sorry for them comparing every new hatch to 205 but well... what else they can do ?

Check out this cool video of lap from Nurburing, it looks damns sweet ( passanger of course ;) ) and the car looks quick too !
