Just a quick one, ive been a fool and bought a new coil for a 1.9 8v not the mi16 engine which i fitted. Will this coil work or do i have to send it back and try again?

Thanks for any help

Electrically the various 8v and 16v coils are all the same, it's just the mountings that change.

Ideal i need to make a mount up anyway as since the engine conversion the coil has been zip tied in place!!

I'm now faced with a different problem, I have fitted the new coil and ignition module and the car now seems to misfire when you accelerate. Any suggestions what the cause might be?

The HT leads, rotor arm, dizzy cap, coil and ignition module are all new

Have you still got the old coil and ignition amp you could swap back for testing?

The later in particular are notoriously bad with aftermarket (non-Bosch) items for causing misfiring, and a bad coil will tend to miss under load.

I still have both the old items so ill swap them out in turn to try and work out what's the problem

Bit more on this! I put the old coil back on and the misfire disappeared, so I took the new coil back and had it replaced. This morning I fitted the second new coil and the misfire has returned!

Now I'm struggling to believe that I have been sold two faulty coils but with the old coil back on it goes away.

The coil is branded Macht, has any one ever used these? Or can you suggest a good brand to try?

Also at the same time I fitted a new ignition module which is a beru branded unit. I can't see this being the issue as the misfire is only there with the new coil.

Some pattern ignition parts are utter rubbish, and others seem to be a bit fussy as to what they'll work with. Might be for example that the coil will work with another make of ignition amp.

Personally, I'd just take the coil back for a refund and run the old original item - they rarely seem to give issue in my experience, and it's to the point that I'd probably rather run a original OE one than a new pattern item!

Same for the ignition amps - I'd rather run an original Bosch one than a pattern item

Ill swap the ignition amp back over then, could do with changing my coil as there are a couple of cracks up the face of it. Hopefully the new coil with my old Bosch amp will work alright.

Thanks for the help
