That's good to here, what sort of power are the other car running in trackday trophy? Power is always a large factor in how much money ill have to spend haha. It looks like it goes to some good track too which is always important. Think I best buy the 'go racing' pack sharpish!

Don't get hung up on hp. It's far more important to make the car handle and brake.

what peter said. The minimum weight for the series is out of the reaches of 205s in my opionion but you could technically get an 8v into top class!

I would just go with what you have (less money) then ballast down into the nearest class so that you are at the top of said class. Or if you are close to the top of a class anyway then try and remove to final Kgs to get to the top. I am currently 951kg with driver and need to be 925kg to be top of class. Thats with driver as the car crosses the line i.e. end of race fuel load.

Power varies so much do to the weight of cars. There was an S3 running 300bhp or so but weighed a lot. Would concentrate on reliability and as perter said handling and brakes. However much power you have you will want more, the fun bit is having a great handling car.

each competitor has to submit a power graph and peak figure from one of 2 companies which use Rota test hub dynos.

The weight is down to the competitor to submit. But they regulary pull people to scrutineering post quali and race for weighing.

Its about as good as its going to get apart from using only one hub dyno. I have had 162.2 from one company pre racing, and then 154.4 from the other company in scrutineering. (hub dynos come to the track for majority of events I think) And this means I could technically loose another 25-30kg or so. But they will always go with the number submitted by the competitor piror to the season or first race which for me was 162.2

Just been looking at the regulations for trackday trophy didn't realize the top class was 175bhp/ton and the next class down upto 150bhp/ton which makes it interesting as most other series I could enter are only restricted by engine capacity or bump my car up because of the engine swap or they want my car in an invitation class, which is no good! At least with trackday trophy everyone is in the same boat. Might look at hiring a car to see how I get on, seems pricey tho once race entry fees etc are added on.

That's why I mentioned the red dragon series, as it's in it's infancy no regs have really been established. The Nippon is run on how much power a car has so it'll probs go that way. They want to get cars on the grid rather than turning people away on technicalities.

They sent me a pack with the details. No rules set until 2014 season so anything goes. Looking at some video footage of the last event if you can go head to head with a well specced Renault Clio 172 you could win races. Will be interesting to see what the rules will be when set in stone. I bet gti-6 engined 205's will be welcomed with open arms.

Done more digging, French trophy want my car in an invitational class too. But as its running on the same grid as the Nippon I could get my car up to the regulations and run at the back of the grid as an option. But, if I spend a load on the car it might be hard to sell because of the lack of other series it can enter (Bar the regional saloon car championships where it won't even be competitive).

I'm still weighing up my options.
