AlexRS2782 136 1 Cars Posted May 2, 2013 So further to this thread - http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=149743 Had a bit of a search but most recent detailed thread with regards to replacing the screen yourself contains info from 2 years ago, so just looking to check the following is still correct: The 205 GTI screen should have "bronze" tint if it's for a mid '91 J reg car. The seals (sunroof & non sunroof) are now both NLA, so I will have to re-use/salvage the current seal without damaging it. If removing the screen, it should be pushed gently from inside to help manoeuvre it out of the car. Do Peugeot still supply the screens as new o.e, although I have found that National Windscreens appear to be able to supply a new screen for a decent price, so I guess this will be to o.e quality? Any other advice / correction of the above much appreciated Many Thanks
Telf 224 2 Cars Posted May 3, 2013 I havent replaced one but i watched a guy come to my house in a van and do it- £110 complete. He basically applied pressure to the screen from the inside - actually the soles of his feet and the screen just pops out.
pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted May 3, 2013 I did mine the other day. If you don't mind damaging the old screen then just get two of you inside and push with your feet that way you keep the seal intact. But protect the bonnet for when it pops out. To replace use the string method but use nylon string or similar so it won't snap. Apply pressure from the outside (not too much as I cracked one in the corner pushing too hard) while having someone gently pull the string and the seal over the lip. It's pretty easy if you are carefull. I used a very good second hand one with no tint so not sure if pug can supply one? The cheapest quote I got online was £110 just for the screen alone. AlexRS2782 136 1 Cars Posted May 3, 2013 Yeah was reading about the removal technique on the other thread My screens knackered so that certainly wont be a problem damaging it further - stuck loads of black tape over the inside today in the cracked area just incase any kids notice the screen over the weekend while it's on the drive & try putting it through As you say the strong method does seem the way to go to get the seal back on Couple of lads on Pistonheads have suggested a company fairly local to me that specialise in classics including VW Campers, Astons, Porsche, etc, and they've used them for years, reused the original seals, etc, with no probs so i'm calling them after the Bank Holiday to get a quote for supply & fit Although spoke to National Windscreens today who say they can supply the correct o.e quality screen for about £120 (unfitted) so I've also got the option of getting the screen myself & then get it fitted elsewhere if needs be too
Slo 283 1 Cars Posted May 3, 2013 Will the oe quality screen come with the blue sunscreen?

AlexRS2782 136 1 Cars Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) Will the oe quality screen come with the blue sunscreen? I'll ask when I call them back on Monday - although my current screen doesn't appear to have a top tint/sunscreen on it, so i'm guessing it's not the original factory one that's currently on it? Is it worth getting a screen with the top tint/sunscreen on? Edited May 3, 2013 by AlexRS2782
Slo 283 1 Cars Posted May 3, 2013 Its just a blue tint so only really matters if your die hard on originality or not really
AlexRS2782 136 1 Cars Posted May 3, 2013 Its just a blue tint so only really matters if your die hard on originality or not really CheeRS for the info - might have to look into the blue tint now you've mentioned it being o.e
Phil H 16 Posted May 3, 2013 I had a brand new screen and a brand new rubber seal from National Windscreens earlier this year. Non sunroof seal if it makes any difference.
chipstick 382 1 Cars Posted May 3, 2013 I've a windscreen seal for sale in the FS section if you decide to replace it.
AlexRS2782 136 1 Cars Posted May 4, 2013 CheeRS guys. Had National call me back today saying they think the price quoted to me for supply only was wrong & they'll check & call back on Tuesday, as it may only be circa £60 for the screen inc Vat so not as expensive as first thought Tempted to buy the screen through National & then get it fitted via Old School (place suggested on PH) and see if the insurance will just pay towards the cost to fit the screen
AlexRS2782 136 1 Cars Posted May 7, 2013 Pleasant surprise today - price supplied & fitted by the place suggested on PH comes in circa £120inc vat, so not much more than the excess I'd have been paying anyway. All booked in for Thursday AM, although the weather is looking pretty pants so hopefully it will hold off so I don't have to utilise the wipers. Turns out the company doing the work, did another 205 GTI about 2 months ago, so the guy I spoke to already knew I wanted one with the bronze tint, etc
Slo 283 1 Cars Posted May 8, 2013 So do they come with the blue tint sunscreen? Did you ask?
Tom Fenton 1,536 Posted May 8, 2013 205 GTI's never came as standard with a top tint screen as far as I know?
Slo 283 1 Cars Posted May 8, 2013 Didn't they? Hmm what about cti's? Mine's got 1 so i assumed it was original
AlexRS2782 136 1 Cars Posted May 8, 2013 Dropped the car off today as weather says high chance of torrential rain & high winds for tomorrow am so didn't want to risk driving it with the wipers on a screen looking like this To update re the screen - The one supplied to o.e spec has the bronze tint, but as Tom says above, no blue top tint on the screen. Also spotted a lovely looking Red 205 GTI whilst driving the car over to Old School with the chap in the car looking just as happy as I was to have spotted another on the road
