My one has a mind of it's own. Cleaning it etc may not help from what i've read. You may need a new TDC sensor.

Have no idea how to test your actual clocks but mine are fine. The sensor plays up when it feels like so I either have a perfectly working gauge ...one that jumps around wildy...or one that doesn't work at all. Has been fine now for the past 5 months and I didn't even touch anything... :P

Still having issues with the rev counter though it hasent worked since ive had the car I have got the 1.9 sensor now and need to connect it up does anyone what wires to connect up also how to test the sensor? How likely is it that the wireing or clocks are at fault any help is appreciated as I dont know wireing at all.

What clock do you have? Dturbo one or GTI?

iirc, they are not compatible due to different number of gaps on the tdc ring of your fly..

I have a dturbo rev counter and a 1.9 turbo (306) engine and rev counter sensor. Does anyone know how to test the sensor or the clocks so I can narrow this down? Will the 205 gti petrol clocks work just to try??
