Ignition Timing Marks

Simple question, are the ignition timings marks on the housing specific to each type of engine or are they a specific number of degrees apart i.e 10 degrees.

what timing marks?

 

never used any marks to set ignition timing, just use the old turn it till it pinks then back a bit.

Haynes manual show timing marks on the housing and flywheel and have been using those

 

Getting a bit of pinking when very hot and under load and wanted to check.

 

Have been running 95 RON when probbaly be better off running 98 RON
