Fan Switch And Wiring

Can anyone recommend some switches to use with fans, and what gauge wire as mine have melted.

Fans are listed as 230W on XU models, so that's roughly 20 amps current draw each.

 

If you must run manual fan switches and aren't using a relay setup, you'll want switches and wiring both rated to atleast 25 amp per fan.

It's going to depend on the individual unit used, but Pacet fans for example are listed as a fair bit lower - 10.5 amp draw for their 12" thinline fan and upto 15.4 amp for their 12" Profan for example (on top of which you'd be wise to add a few amp safety margin in the switch and wiring)

Remember those figures are per fan, so if you're running a pair in parallel from the same switch you'll need to double the rating of the switch and any common wiring if you're switching them from a single switch!

will be replacing my existing setup, each fan on separate wire, just think the switchs were not up to it
