Forecourt Fun...

Recommended Posts

Alan77

So, my friend works for Howards Peugeot in Yeovil and was organising a launch display for the 208gti. He asked if he could borrow my car for a few days to sit on the forecourt, along with a 206gti, 207gti and 208gti...

They had a limited edition matt white 208gti on show and a black one out front to drive...

During the time that the cars were lined up, my friend said that one car got loads more interest from visitors than any other...... yep, you guessed right, the 205...

Quite nice seeing the GTi's lined up at a showroom, I even got a valet out of it for lending mine to them for a few days.

Great pics :)

Unfortunately they demonstrate how progressively spastastic the front end has gotten over subsequent models

I remember when VW did similar and it's mad how much bigger the cars grow with every new evolution..

Look like jelly moulds to me.

No definition between windscreen and bonnet/wings, it's all blended in and looks like a big blob (the 206 drives like one).

We did the same at work, the Cherry CTi and the Lazer 1.9 got more hype than the others!

Then you see her years later in the cake aisle at Tesco except she's now well over forty, has had about 6 kids and has an arse the size of a bus crammed inside a pair of skanky old tracky pants!!!.....oh and a pair of old ugg boots on!!

Really? The new one doesn't look massively (no pun intended) different to the outgoing model from the pictures, but I've not seen one in the flesh. I don't think the outgoing model is very big at all (have hired one twice). Since you've mentioned it, I think the Fiesta is one of the few cars that hasn't grown that much in each generation (not compared to typical growth anyway). But prhaps that's no longer the case with the new model.

The new Fiesta is actually very close in size to the original Focus believe it or not:

Mk1 (1998-2005) Focus = 4175mm long, 1700mm wide, 1440mm high

Mk6 (2011-on) Fiesta = 4067mm long, 1722mm wide, 1473mm high

How does that compare to an 80's Escort?

How does that compare to an 80's Escort?

Mk3 (1980-1986) Escort = 3970mm long, 1640mm wide, and 1380mm high.

Oh, and for comparison, a 205 GTi is 3705mm long, 1572mm wide, and 1354mm high.... a car that was in the Fiesta's size class in its time.

Looking at all of them together now seems that the front end of the newer cars has become more Asian looking ...

Interestingly the new fiesta is longer, wider and taller than a 309 as well.

He'll, even the mini countryman has the same wheelbase as an original Range Rover and is almost as long, wide and tall.

Up there with Henry Yorke's quote about getting your old 205 back again after a few owners.

Been wanting to do this for a while.

Think you can do it again but with them all in the same colour?

A mate of mine told me there was a 205 on display the other day, now I know why, Great pics of the cars through the ages.

I would have been one of the people looking over the 205 more than the 208 :D

It's horrific really. These cars don't even have a lot of space inside
