Bumped The Saab - May Need To Replace

Recommended Posts

TT205

Had a bump last night in the trusty 93 estate, lights went from green to amber, the guy in front briefly floored it then changed his mind and slammed all on ...... bang!

Well miffed - thats my first (road) bump in 30 years!

Anyway - as it's now only worth £2300-2800 depending on who you believe then it may well be written off as quite a few bits are fubared

What would be your suggestions for a replacement for similar money - needs to be a diseasel, cheap servicing would be a factor ;)

Previous threads seem to favor a Mondeo

If you are happy with it why not look for another Saab?

Exactly. What about a 9-5? Or a V70 diesel?

I may well do but it has cost me more in spares/servicing than any car I've ever had

dual mass flywheel and clutch was over a grand fitted

alternator

3 ! EGR valves

heater fan and filter

2 batteries

3 injectors

2 lots of rear callipers

split coolant hoses

air con condeser

Plus all the normal wear and tear items

I realise cars don't run for free but in 4 years I have spent as much as I paid for the car, it would shortly be due cambelt replacement and particulate filter is a problem

Fair enough, I wouldn't be very happy with that either.

What about an A4 TDI? If you aim for one of the last 1.9 PD TDI's the engine is well proven with none of the modern electronic high pressure injector problems as per the Mondeo or later VAG 2.0 TDI engine. Also should fit in with your budget OK. I recently sold mine, in 3 years I think the only thing over and above servicing, brakes, tyres, was a new latch and wiper motor for the tailgate.

Servicing wise I DIY, it used to cost me £90 once a year for genuine VAG service bits inc oil from the local VW main dealer.

how bad is it? can you not just fix it and not bother claiming for it, that way it wont be written off.

I think a lot of those can be easy bolt on parts. All you need to do is find someone breaking one. The wings seem OK which is the main point. The front bumper may even be salvageable too if you really wanted to keep the costs down
