I Seem To Be Having Trouble Finding Driveshafts

Recommended Posts

can anybody suggest a place to buy recon driveshafts for a reasonable price? I got a passenger side one off ebay last month for a decent price, and was planning on getting the drivers side after payday, but there seems to be a shortage on the bay for some reason.

I've tried ecp,gsf and carparts4less websites, and seems to be not a great deal on there either

Its a tu drivers side shaft i'm looking for (Please note this isnt a wanted ad!)

has somebody gone and snapped all the shafts??

Failing that, i've got a few knackered shafts, is there anywhere that does exchanges?

Cheers

John

Have you tried a local motor factor? I've never struggled to get anything I've needed, the online websites are often crap and you are better off speaking to a person in my experience.

Wherever you get them, make sure you get a receipt and warranty. There is some real s*ite out there. See picture below, this was a "new" "recon" shaft, lasted 30 miles at *cough* curborough

As Tom suggests i'd give a local motor factor a go, generally no issues in getting one, but make sure it is the correct length, splines etc as the trouble with motor factors is they bung anything in a box, most will be on an exchange basis also.

Why do I never think of the most obvious place to look!? Theres two motorfactors just up the road from me, so I'll give them a try on monday

Why not phone them now? Obviously they cannot carry every conceivable spare so will have to order in what you require, so if you phone now you can get a price, if its OK they will order and on Monday you can collect, everyone is happy.

I cant really call from work, and I'm not in a rush, so monday will suffice :)

If you must know my chum, I have a headset on taking a constant barrage of emergency calls. Unfortunately, although I'm pretty good at multitasking, making a private phonecall, and taking an emergency phonecall at the same time, is pretty tricky and likely to get me the sack.

But might I suggest you go and get a driveshaft? You seem very keen on the idea ;)

I had a "Q-drive" passenger TU shaft off ECP a few months back - seems just fine after a couple of thousand miles on it so far, with as much abuse as a leggy 1.1 can manage. Cheap as chips and no need to return the old one for exchange.

£60, free delivery and in stock.

I want a set for my 1.9 but I'm dubious of Qdrive.

For a 1.9, I would be, too - but for a low-power pikey-spec car, it seemed worth the risk. TBH, it was a bit of an experiment, but it seems to be paying off so far.

<checks> 2,500 miles since it went on in February.

why get a full driveshaft and not just a cv joint?

The only shafts you can swap the outer joints on are *some* (not all) 1900 shafts. The others have a weird knuckle thing that's integral with the shaft itself.
