Wing Removal

Recommended Posts

Rich

Hi everyone, just wondering whats the story with removing the wings from my 1989 205. I removed all the bolts but it seems to be held on with some kind of adhesieve? don't want to go to mad pulling it off.

thanks,

Real pain the arse to get off without damaging the wing.

I managed it a few years ago using a heatgun to soften the sealant and a sharp knife to cut through. Painstakingly slow, but take your time and it should come off OK.

I've got a pair on a scrap shell that need removing. This time I'll try cheese wire.

They are a complete arsehole to remove, my preferred method is a heatgun and a very sharp knife, just have to be patient, its a tedious job!

If you use a UV lamp, this will allow it to heat the panel without damaging the paint. Will take a good bit of heat to remove it, and some time but worth it.

A UV heat lamp. Haven't tried it with a IR lamp, but would assume the same effect.

I found the details in the Methods manual for the 205, definitely a help when needed. :)
