Personal Plates. Which One Of These Would You Choose ?

just drive it as it is untill you get pulled, then you'll have 7 days to go get new plates and prove you've had them changed. plenty of people do it, the police don't take the plate off you (I have never seen them do that anyway), but they will issue you an on the spot fine, which iirc was around £30.

They probably won't, true. But they can. Same as you'll probably get a £30 FPN. But you can get a much bigger fine.

As GL said - it's not about what they _will_ do, and it's not some holier-than-thou whiter-than-white crusade. It's about being aware of what they _can_ do, and making the decision in full awareness of the potential penalties. The regs on how the reg is displayed aren't new - they haven't changed since the introduction of the smaller font, blue strip and XX99XXX-style plates in '01. The regs on making 'em have been tightened up - and if the reg's just been bought, there's no get-out for "But they've been like this for years". Whoever made those plates broke the law.

I wouldn't say so as your plate is still pretty close to original & it's legible rather than being badly spaced, dodgy fonts, carbon fibre effect lettering, etc.

For anyone who's not seen it, here's the current thread on Pistonheads featuring some other interesting adaptions - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=1216707

Nice plate. IMHO plates always look better if they have not been altered.

Also, FYI, the laws are even more stringent on plates these days so if putting new plates on the car they not only have to comply with size and spacing regulations but also have to have the name of the plate supplier and their post code in small print at the bottom, and you aren't allowed any additional text (silly messages etc) along the bottom, and can only display certain logos at the side, such as the country emblem. That's a rough summary from memory and may/may not be factually accurate at this point in time, so I emplor anyone reading to double check the exact legalities themselves rather than taking that on face value. I'm just trying to reiterate that the laws are even stricter on this now than they were just a few years ago.

This is correct, I work for a company making number plates.

You can get 3 points and a £60 fine for illegal plates also fail the MOT.

The Logo at the side is also a bit dodgy at moment as they are trying to say athat anything except for the GB with euro stars is racist, ie: Scottish flag, England flag etc.

Ah, you've gotta love the UK, the home of the politically correct common sense bypass. Only here can you be labelled as racist for wanting to take pride in your nationality or religion <_<

It's nothing to do with "racism", and everything to do with the whole point of the blue national identifier on the side of the plate - which is to replace the round national identifier sticker. Same as an "ENG" or "MUFC" sticker means nothing, internationally - it'd mean nothing on the side of the plate. Since the national identifier is optional, replacing it with some other meaningless logo is roughly analogous to putting "Voxorl Corser marf-breavvers rule McD, innit?" on the bottom of the plate.

The only reason it's an issue is because the UK has about the laxest plate manufacturing regime, despite recent attempts to tighten it.

Since you chose to quote me rather than Pug_sport, I assume you took my comment to be an acknowledgement that what Pug_sport said was fact. When actually I was using it as an excuse to  at the ridiculousness of Great Britain these days, which is a wider topic than just license plates. If you want to correct the statement about national flags on plates then you really should have replied to Pug_sport, not me ;)

My sincerest apologies. I thought you were  at the prohibition, rather than the knuckle-dragging cretins (pug_sport not included, clearly) who believe this kind of drivel. Clearly, you're far too subtle for me.

I have H20 PEU. Got it for my birthday but think it was 249 from DVLA. My cars an H reg anyway, I think it's subtle.

It's good to have an idea of price, thanks. The reg plate companies have said the one on my car (H19 PEU) is worth anything from 350 to 650 but they obviously just pluck numbers out of the air. If I sell it I'll probably ask about £200 for it I suppose.
