Personal Plates. Which One Of These Would You Choose ?

Recommended Posts

bondyshambles

I was thinking about getting a cheapish plate for the car at some stage. Most of these are less than £500. I remember 20 years ago whilst sat in Maccy D's in my 205 that another one was in there with the plate A19 PUG. Mine is a 1.9 on a H plate so some of them keep the year still. You choose between....

A 20S XU

A19 XUP

H19 PGT

A19 XUJ

H 20S XU

A19 FAB

or what have you ?

If I had up to £500 quid to burn, I'd put it towards buying upgraded suspension or a diff.

That out of the way I'd go for H 20S XU or preferably the letters PUG in it, innit :)

Feedback is a gift!

He's right mind, I did a quick search and the dateless 205 and three random letter ones are all 1k+, B205 WOW was £635, which seemed alright.

I used to have a private plate on my S2 106 Rallye R2 LYE, and still think that pps look pretty cool if they are car appropriate, eg WRC on subarus or EVO on mitsis etc or clearly expensive and worth more than the car they are on, there is a two digit two letter plate on a knackered 80's Saab 900 (non turbo) near me it is the local landowners shed.

Failing that I think that they are a bit tenuous and try hard, especially people who insist on trying to spell their own names...

I disagree, Mr KILSBY(Me) showing K12SBY on his 205 looks quite good to me ;)

H19 PGT would probably look ok with a carefully placed black headed screw.

I have four private plates. I'm not going to quote them as I think it's a bit crass. So please don't think I'm a reg plate nazi.

But, my view on the above are that they are all a bit meh. Plates are like tattoos, you should chose one because it means something to you , not just for the sake of having one! A lot of my friends have had to have tattoos covered/removed as they got one that's tits just for the sake of having one.

In summary, think of what you want, track it down and buy it.

I'm sure I used to see that round the malvern Maccy D's back when I lived up that way, must've been a good 7 years or so ago. Rings a bell anyway.

Afternoon,

I personally love the fact that my plate is the original fitted from 1989, which makes it stand out from the crowd.

After a few days in Essex, my indifference towards private plates has become even more entrenched.

Amongst the highlights (lowlights?) of trying-too-hard was LBV3U spaced and bodged to "read" LOVE U. But the real "I am an utter plank" has to go to the bloke with SCR3W on a currentish Aston. I mean, honestly?

Although not personalised, my 205 came with the reg "J205 RPG", as in rocket propelled grenade.

None if the ones listed look that great imo. The personal plate thing over here in n.i is quite big as the "Keeping up with the Joneses" people like to put them on their nearly new/used Bmw's, Audi's etc round my area so they look like a new car.

I have "KDZ 205" on my car, but it is a period plate in N.I (Northern Ireland) and with it being 3 digits stands out more, as all normal cars are issued with 4 digits from the tax office e.g fez 1234. I also got "BIG 208" before the peugeot 208 car was launched and before it got an extreme price slapped on it. Try and get an N.I 3 digit "205" plate if you can. You can use them on the mainland no problem, but they are usually over £500 unless your lucky and get a bid in on wilsons auctions, who usually do the auctions for the DVA number plates. A nice plate that is noticed, is better "value for money", than a cheaper one that just blends in with the rest, especially if it has alot of digits/numbers.

I agree with a few others in that the plates on the list are pretty naff. Why PUG anyway? I personally don't see why peugeots (pronounce it) are nicknamed pugs??

I have to say, I also think personal plates can come across as pretentious. If for example, you need to try and make a half assed attempt at a number plate spell a surname using numbers then you probably should be speaking in numbers too.....or change your name to the original reg! Can't be much more personal than that.

I bought a car that came with E11 PUG. Yet to put it on one of the fleet as the rally car is too old, I'm keeping F375 original, and G417 will probably not pass another MOT. Might put it on my normal road car.

Or be fortunate enough to have a surname that is only three letters long...........such as mine which is ORR and means that I can get a private plate really cheap. he he
