Washer Jet Upgrades

Recommended Posts

used the search button and people suggest Xsara mist jets. So i ordered a set of ebay fitted straight in BUT they spray below the wipers and as far as i can tell not adjustable.

anybody get any tried and tested washer jets which work?

The 405 ones are rubbish in the winter as they Freeze up, I use the std single outlet ones, better than the twins by far and when new dish out a fair amount of water, go to large and you'll empty the washer bottle in 5 mins as it's tiny

I suppose its down to the quality of the Washer Fluid you use?

Twin standard jets with decent washer fluid to stop gunk building up, anything else either empties the bottle too quickly or simply looks wrong.

The E91 has heated and mega powerful jets, it also takes about 10 litres of liquid to fill the reservoir! An old forum member did something like this on his car with twin motors and winding the tube around a coolant pipe!

The 205 ones add to the charm!

Having fitted Xsara mist jets, a brand new motor, and winding the washer tube around a coolant pipe (as Simon mentioned above), I personally think it's all a waste of time. The Xsara jet is the worst modification IMO, as you've found out yourself.

Adjustable twin nozzle jets, correctly adjusted of course, good screen wash, good quality wipers, a healthy reservoir pump and clog free tubing is really all you need. Keep It Simple Stupid.

I've got 405 style spray bars on earo wipers that I got off ebay. They are the best I've had, but do empty the bottle quite quickly, especially with most of my miles being motorway driving with lots of spray weve had recently. Mine have frozen once or twice, but within 2minutes theyve defrosted again, so no big problem.

I use berlingo rears (the ones with two rear doors) which clip on to the wiper arms - i had BX one's for a while but they have their problems.

I have standard twin jets. I fitted a new pump last weekend (£8) and now they're awesome. No need to 'upgrade' IMO.

i have used various types of jets depends on the use of your car. I live out in the sticks and use 405 bars pipe routing is a little ghastly but they are fantastic. Sprays direct to the window minimising spray drift in wind. Mine have never frozen just use decent wash.

I used some of a 55 fiat punto, noticed my girlfriends had the same fitment and were the mist type. when sprayed cover most of the screen.

I think something is wrong here. My washer jets were changed to xsara type, and were perfect, even when doing triple figures...

It depends on the alignment of the bonnet. If you're lucky they'll spray fine (like mine did when I had a broken bonnet hinge). If you are unlucky they'll just spray against the wiper arms and won't be worth a crap (like mine did when my hinge was fixed and the bonnet was sitting correctly.

Either way, I'm personally not a fan of mist type washers anyway, but it's a matter of taste.

I had the xsara mist ones on my 306 (for which they were perfect) and when i got the 205 i put them straight on only to find that they hit just above the wiper arms and did sweet f.a.

I add some 'booster' washer fluid with the standard washer fluid and it doesnt freeze up and cleans the screen very well. I use one of those tooth pick tools to get the correct direction of the jets, because they are fairly long you can get get a better position where you want it saving time.

I think i've got the xsara ones on mine...can't remember whatg I got them off now. Changed them in haste as my singles were completely shagged.

They are the mist type though and the passenger one sprays fine..if anything it could spray a bit lower as some sprays up onto the roof. The driver side though doesn't even hit the wiiper arm..it almost dribbles out sometimes. Motorway speeds and it sprays alright but not perfect. I think it's something to do with the pressure. The pass side squirts it out fine as it's first in line and then the driver side must get a pressure drop because it won't spray great. Been thinking about toying with the washer piping to see if I can make it better.

I found the twin nozzle jets were no better than the singles. Could get one of the two jets to spray nicely but the extra one was just a PITA

The mist type probably works brilliant with a auto bonnet although..i'm sure someone on here can confirm it

The xsara ones don't work at all on the auto bonnet, it just sprays at the bottom of the windscreen under the wiper.

Kyri and his turbo-charged washer jets!

The 205 ones are pants compared to modern stuff. If I could replicate my 306 ones, I'd be happy. But, as others have said, the standard reservoir is tiny. I'm giving serious thought to sticking a bigger reservoir in the boot. Didn't the early 205s have the reservoir under the drivers inner wing? If so, how big was it?

Mine has the reservoir under the wing. However it wasn't originally meant for screen washer but driving lamp washers. I've disconnected the headlight washers and use it for windscreen. I believe the volume is around 5 liters.

I do believe that the earliest 1.6's used that reservoir originally.

Yeah, i have seen early ph1 base models with that reservoir aswell, in the same location as 306's. Its easily 4 times the size of the later one.

It was my 306 that reminded me! Maybe Pug changed it because the 205 has no under wing covers, stones etc can kick up and damage tank/pump etc. Maybe the 306 covers could be replicated onto the 205?

Might look into this when I finally get round to sorting the 205 <_<
