i have a cat on the car?

just I have a completely standard engine at the moment and wouldnt mind getting a nicer engine note and a few extra ponies, but with having the cat is there any point and I can't get rid of the cat as need it for MOT (or do I?)

A back box on its own would do nothing for performance, with or without a CAT.

They reckoned the full Magnex System improved midrange, I think I felt that when I fitted mine!

These days I have fancy manifold with oe as the remainder.

Quiet and stealth.

I don't think performance back boxes exist. My first GTI had a Magnex silencer (I think I sold it to Henry in about 2003!!) all it did was warn that I was coming and drone out on the motorway!

Silencers do have differences. I measured power loss of 7-10 ponies in my signatures car when I put a bad back box to it. The silencer was brand new but obviously had very bad design which I didn't now until I did before after comparison.

Given that it's an L reg you probably do need the CAT, but you need to confirm using the VIN number as it's done based on the date the car was manufactured, not when it was registered. As a result, quite a few CAT equipped 205's registered after the cut off actually don't need to pass a CAT emissions test because they were manufactured prior to the cut off and just sat around for a while before being registed.
