Alloy Wheels Refurbish

Recommended Posts

aronw2004

Hi everyone,

Going to sort my wheels next. Iv allready got them ready for painting. Iv sanded them and sandblasted them. My question is, what undercoat should i use and also top coat. My planis to spray them infront of the spaceheater.

Dont spray them too close to the heater lad as the can be to harsh on drying paint and mess up all your hard work , epoxy primer if your spraying bear metal and then normal primer etc

gas space heaters are no good for spray painting because they produce so much condensation,i use infra red heaters for drying paint in my garage at home

How are the infrared heaters on electric lad, as i just let mine air dry using no heat at all but have considered getting a heater but was worried it would be high cost , also bang on with the space warmer at mate used once in a small garage when he painted someones golf door all the paint bubbled and kicked out some fumes and smoke and basically he had to full redo it

Thanks. i think ill use the heater to warm them up as the garage is quite cold and ill use some electric heaters to aid the drying. would a fan heater do?

U-POL Acid #8 Etch Primer worked well for me on the 2 sets that I've done. I used Ford Moondust silver which is very similar to the original colour.

I put epoxy primer on everthing, best etch primer and rust inhibitor all in one plus its water proof so you can leave it.a While as it won't soak in moisture like normal primer

Half way through the alloys. Will use sandblaster for the rest.
