Nothing great at that price. Save up for some Gaz at minimum if you are hard set on coilovers

not essential, but i'm getting a 1.9 axle for it so i'm going to concentrate on suspension/braking now for abit , is there anything available at that price?

yes, bilstein or Koni.

don't bother with the 1.9, its the same as your 1.6 axle bar more troublesome brakes, unless of course yours needs a rebuild.

decent pads all round is sufficient for the braking btw.

i noticed my left hand leg has abit of play, so yes mine would need a refurb, and the 1.9 was reconditioned 4 years ago and only has 150 miles on it.

ya i'd sayu i'l bleed them and some new fluid, pads and mayble grooved disks

and thanks for coilover info

they wont be "coilovers" they'll be fixed platform standard diameter dampers at that price, height adjustable bilsteins are twice that, for the fronts only.

plain discs is good, you don't need grooved :)

Konis or the Billies are a good setup if your looking for something a little stiffer. Ive run them for a few years now and have had no problemson the road. THe standard stuff is pretty good but does not 'feel' that racy if thats what your after.

Coilovers for that money as stated will be rubbish and you dont really need them unless your really hitting the track. They will just be s*it and make the car usless to drive

The 1.9 springs will be pretty similar to the ones you currently have ( 1.6? ). Eibach are a popular lowering spring giving about a 30mm drop, they are also stiffer. You can then have your rear beam matched to amount the front gets lowered by. Avoid getting a stiffer front spring unless your going to fit thicker torsion bars up the rear as it will throw the balance of the car out. Even getting standard springs lowered will be better IMHO. THe rear discs will give you a better pedal feel but many argue they dont do much. You might as well swap the 1.9 front callipers over while your at it. For some reason Ive always found it hard to bleed these cars, its probably my technique or something like a rear flexi pipe has collapsed and given me grief.

I would spend my money on getting the front wishbones bushes and droplinks up to a good standard. When you change over beams I would also fit new rear beam mounts. They are all pretty old now and make a huge difference to the driving experience of these cars. Then you can start throwing stiffer stuff at it!

Have fun

thanks for the info i appreciate it, i will probably just get springs for the time being. they are a bit of a pain to bleed, but it would still be an upgrade in my eyes,

i will be replacing all the bushings and links in due coarse, just want to set it up to my liking first!

As cam says I'd go through all the bushes before you even think about 'setting it up to your liking'.

Definitely do the bushes first. Your wasting you time getting it "how you like" otherwise. 205s are really sensitive to it

on the real axle, just above where the shocks mount. theres a rubber 'block' and when i was taking down the axle half of one stayed in place, there pretty perished . could i get these from a main dealer?

If your after improving the handling and will be replacing the bushes get some solid ones> http://www.bakerbm.com/205.php?data=suskit205a , granted the cabin noise will be louder but the handling increase is worth it

yes, or a local motorfactor.

its debatable whether solid mounts "improve" the handling.
