Please Help Im Out Of Ideas

Need some help have an issue with the 1.9 205 gti 1987 just basically fitted new breathers removed inlet gaskets etc. basically removed half the engine components gave them a splash of paint used all new gaskets when it was rebuilt new fuel filter plugs etc. my problem came when I started it got it running sweet as a nut best yet but then all of a sudden couldn’t get the idle down from 1200 and when you knocked the engine off then crank it she turns then failed turned then failed almost like you have pulled all the power from the battery one more crank and starts it all seem to happen when the car got warm I have spent a fair bit of time checking everything I can think of I just can’t get it to sit right at all, any help would be most great full and by the way have a good strong spark good fuel no miss fire just seems like the timing is out but don’t seem to matter where you place the distributor still lumpy just as another note struggles to pull past 5k and tried the maf as I have a spare I’m thinking its electrical car has new ecu temp sensor.
