Throttle Adjustment Ferrule - Spring Clip?

Recommended Posts

Ivelostmypants

My 1.9 had been giving the jerky driving in lower gears, and if I fully depressed the clutch at a stand still the revs would shoot up by 1000!! I checked the throttle cable and it was apparent that the cable was falling off the side of the reel, becoming partly stuck.

My accelerator pedal has always been very responsive even to the slightest touch so isn't lacking there.

When I read about the cable adjustment in the Haines manual it says about a spring clip on the adjustment ferrule. Which isn't even there on mine, and the whole tube can move freely through the housing. Where can I get one of these from so I can properly adjust it?

Loads of cars use similar, a trip to a scrap yard is what's required, but I'd put a cable tie on for now.

Cheers, I wasn't sure as to how simple it would be as I have no clip as a reference, and I'm way too keen with the ol' cable ties and black tape when it comes to cars! So thought I'd get a professional opinion first! But a trip to scrap yard next week it is and have a scout around :)

Cheeeers!

.. can also use spare injector clips , for adjusting the cable travel just pop on a two on each side with little free play on the cable .

I have the same problem , always blamed the engine mounts , changed mounts , engine sits tight . but still this jerky feeling Rob mentioned.

I'm sorry but I always noticed this clip , but never gave it any attention.

What's it's job anyway?!

Its pretty obvious really, tension the cable so that the throttle switch clicks to open & set the spring clip so that its as close to the point just before it clicks open with the tension released as you can, basically removing as much slack from the cable as possible.

Its not rocket science after all.

http://www.acc.umu.se/~mappo/peggan/HaynesP205.pdf - chapter 4C2 has the description of it.

Shop near me sold perfect clips for it, and WOW what a difference with slow moving traffic and stop start movement! Hopefully it sorts yours out too so my little prob has fixed another! :)

Oh the irony of it: I was thinking to myself oh how nice is it to fix a job on the car for a matter of pence! Only to find that I crushed my sunglasses bought the day before with the bonnet when closing it! DOH!!
