Just robbed this from a 405 we have in stock along with the guts from two keys.

Will this plug into my phase two 205 ok??

ie: direct replacement

Yes, it's a straight swap - it's what I'm using in my own 205 :)

Yup, it works.

Just a bit of a faff getting the inop key working then swapping the blade over (a bit of filing and drilling)

Nice genuine looking remote key for my car!

Exactly as I did with mine:

It's a nice modern OE-looking touch :)

How much work is involved in fitting one of those receivers to an older vehicle? Say if you were to get one with the cable.

It's not that difficult, but is more involved than you first think - as well as the lack of wiring for the receiver, the drivers door locking motor is different, as is the wiring, and there's a control box under the dash as well that isn't there on earlier cars (nor is the wiring). Basically, it's a dash out job and swapping over a fair chunk of the central locking related wiring from a suitable donor.

Probably easier to just buy an aftermarket RCL kit (or a suitable alarm with RCL built in) if you're not too fussed about having an OE kit - to be honest they'll work better too, as the OE setup isn't brilliant being IR based rather than RF (as found on later 306's etc) which typically has better range and doesn't need line of sight.

I did pull out that black rectangle control box and a fair chunk of wiring from a ph2 for Justin Case, but as you say - for that work involved it probably is worth having a security system fitted that does it all at once.

Here's how the keys are done.

Take both keys, mark scrap blade with tippex

Undo screw, open up case and pull blade out.

Take original key , cut it up to remove the blade. Stanley knife works well cutting along the lines in the key plastic

Blade out

Put old blade ontop of one to be modified to fit plip, mark up excess and hole to drill.

Now cut and file off waste and shape to fit original size.

Bang it all back together and away you go!

Nice thanks for showing that - very useful. After seeing this post I went on ebay and emailed a guy who is breaking a 405 and have a receiver and fob on its way to me lovely job. So this will be very helpful.
