Gti-6 Conversion, Pas/ac Question

Firstly, apologies if it's been brought up but...

 

I'm a few days off making a start on the conversion, can anyone enlighten me on what to do with the serpentine belt as I won't be running AC or PAS. Is there a way to do this or will i have to make an idler pulley?

Most people use a 6PK700 belt and a cambelt tensioner in one of the unused M8 threads on the engine mount casting.

Not mine, but that's a picture showing the non-PAS/AC belt setup described above.

I cut off the excess material from alternator bracket and used XU9J4 type belt tensioner.

This saved me a ton of weight.

I used an S16 non aircon type mounts and fabricated a simple adjuster bar using the standard 8 valve 205 securing bolt and adjuster bolt.

I just used a 6pk700 belt and did not require a tensioner. Was tight to get on and has been fine for months with out a tensioner.

So long as they're sharpened for cutting cast iron.

It's surprising what you can do with ikea scissors. Actually they are there to give some scale.

Thanks for the replies, looks like there's a few different ways to do it. I've been pondering it for a few weeks and i'm still a few weeks off starting so I thought i'd ask rather than have it in the back of my mind for ages.
