Sunroof Problems - Non-Vaccum Type

Recommended Posts

chris-gti

I've been putting this off for three years now but i think it's time to address the issue of the sunroof.

Its an aftermarket type (I beleive) with a winder, not the vaccum type.

Problem is it doesn't work anymore, both cables are broken, its stuck closed and the fixings are rusted solid so I'm guessing replacement of the whole unit is my only option.

I would gladly do away with it and plate the roof but i'm not nearly skilled enough to do it and not distort the roof skin.

has anyone any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

Pretend it's a hard top and don't open it

On a serious note, I have a dealer fit roof with very similar if not the same rails as that, although mine is a manual sliding one, rather than a winder. Perhaps dealers fitted various types over a period?

I've never opened mine. Doesn't leak and a fair yank hasn't shifted the stuck seal - so I've decided to leave mine as is rather than yank it back, rip the seal and have a future leak.

Out of interest what do those buttons do on the console next to your map reading light you can see in the picture?

Yeah thats been the general consensus of the last three years. it's just annoying that someone cut a perfectly good NON sunroof and put that crap in there.

and the switches are for my elec windows, i don't have door pockets so i re-located the switches up there. feeding the wires up the windscreen channels was a royal pain in the ass.

EDIT: not advisable because when you are putting windows up or down people think your'e giving them the middle finger.
