Sorry if this is the wrong section i did look over the others and non seemed to be the correct one so i just put it in general .

So last night i bought some new alloys , for the first time ive bought a set without tyres , now i just recently paid 220 for a set of budgets from a mobile tyre van ( flaked all my paint off Aswel ) i remember when i posted it up on my project thread a few members said there were some better places to get better tyres cheaper.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Kind regards.

I personally buy mine online and then give a tyre fitter a blue bank note on a quiet Friday afternoon.

Alternatively when buying online with some companies, you can opt to have them fitted at a local fitting centre. Worth checking a few sites to see what tyres are available in your budget.

I recently had a set delivered from EARS and was impressed with their speedy service and pricing.

Yeah that's the way I do it. See a tyre fitter directly if you can, bypass the office :P

My T1-R proxes came from blackcircles on an offer at £50.00 a corner a while back at a really good price, although i'm not as impressed with them as some of the people who write the online reviews. Best road tyres i've had were Pirelli p6000s though. Not sure if they still make them now.

Unsure if last post was serious or not...

Personally I'd hunt for part worn michelins, £250 odd has sorted me enough tyres to last at least 2 maybe 3 years going by how long these winter ones are lasting, and i have a few old pe2's that'd be ideal for finishing off on trackdays too :D

My local tyre fitters will sort them no probs, price has varied from nothing as it had a valve and took sod all to balance :D to £6.50 with new valve and weights (100 yards away, proper local lads run and own the place, bit of a tip tbh!!)

 Snigger

I always buy local as fitment is free, Falken 914's a very good tyre and I have actually ordered some for the new wheels on my 309 ~£60 a corner. Buying online is a false economy in my opinion as you just end up paying loads to have them fitted.

Pirelli P6000's are utter monkey spunk at best.

There is a reason they are known as ditch finders!

Dude, don't get me wrong, everyone has their own opinion on stuff like this.

I personally only use Michelin, some don't like em, I do.

There's loads of info on tyre recommendations and associated suppliers if you do a search. I have used camskill for the Toyo proxes T1R that I'm currently running on the 205 as they were on offer for £35 each which seemed like a bargain. I paid £20 (cash of course) for local balance and fitting. For the record, at the budget end they're fairly good, but I'll replace them with something more premium.

I have also recently fitted michelins on the SMax recently. Blackcircles quoted circa £135/corner and when I called the local fitted directly (the blackcircles agent) the were able to beat the price.

Exactly. Don't worry too much about what people think if you have made you own findings.

What you will find is a lot of people say XYZ is s*it - when they've no actual experience of a product, but have read that feedback from others. I'm not suggesting the feedback on certain things is wrong as often it's obvious and can be useful from respectable people who've obviously tested various items, but take some feedback with a pinch of salt and don't be put off if the product fits in your budget and does the bare minimum YOU need.

I'm a fan of the Falken 912/914. Very good for the money and everyday use.

The 914 has replaced the 912.

I find that camskill has the best prices online - but i have never bought from them. I just go on there to see how much they would be then i go to a local independant tyre place with the "I can get them for £X, if you can match/beat that then i'm yours." - seems to work. I don't have to worry about fitting costs because i work in a garage.

They are for 13 inch wheels! Just bought 2 for the AX looks as though they won't be making the 914 for little wheels :(

912's will stillbe available while stocks last, even possibly in sizes not covered by the new 914's for a while yet.

Adam, have a look at the topic in group buys for the Michelin Exalto's from 205007, if you're not in a massive rush for them you'll struggle to find a better tyre for anywhere near the price.

Oxford tyres on Oakworth road used to be good for fitting tyres afaikk but if not I know somewhere locally.

Ears are on eBay, they do Toyo proxy t1r for £33 each! Plus local fitting and balancing at around £7

Great tyres in my opinion especially at that price

I'd agree. The sidewall is a bit soft if you ask me which means they deform a bit under hard cornering, but at that price you can'r really argue.

T1Rs are good when new, i've managed to kill the outside edges down to canvas whilst still having 3mm in the centre though on both front and rear.

nice price though. might go for them again

p6000s had these on the mazda, the fronts would lock in the wet as soon as you breathed on the brake. I'd imagine they are even worse on a less dynamically stable car like the 205...

if you can get hold of some Michelin pe2 they are rather choice, bit more dependable than the Goodyear eagle f1,wear better and grip better than the fallen912,and wear better and grip better in the wet than the toyos.

Michelin PE2, Hankook S1 Evo or Falken ZE-912/914 - you won't go wrong with any of those in my experience. PE2's are the better but costlier of the three.

Toyo T1-R's aren't bad (got them on the 306 currently, had them on several 205's) but they're not quite as good an all rounder as the above.

Budgets are a false economy - they're rarely any noteworthy amount cheaper than the Hankooks and Falkens mentioned above, and typically they're bloody awful in damp and wet conditions, often with a snappy, unpredictable breakaway that's hardly what you want with a car like a 205.

Just to add, don't go in to ears and ask for toyos for £33 you need to buy them through eBay or go in quoting the exact eBay price..

Toyos get a bad rep for wearing out fast but I find they wear down to half way pretty quick but last a good while after. They give you loads of confidence in the wet
