Dvla And Engine Swaps

What is the current correct procedure for notifying the DVLA of an engine upgrade?

I have done it before by just sending a letter and the V5 but I have read somewhere recently that it's not that simple any more??

just need a letter from a garage to say the work has been done and can confirm the engine number/size etc as far as i'm aware.

think an engine builder could do it too if you've gone down that route

I work at a Peugeot franchised dealer, so I could pen a letter no bother!

easy peasy, as long as it has a garage letter head and that garage is registered. I know someone who has done it through an old registered name which hasn't been used in the industry for many years, no issues for him.

you can get a note put on the MOT if your friendly with the tester, and send that off. I did it for the insurance and logbook.

Write the new engine number and displacement in the "changes to vehicle" section of the V5 and send it off. 80% of the time they'll just send you an updated V5 with the new details and that's it done.

Don't send anything extra unless they ask for it as it only confuses them.
