Just curious as to how people have routed FMIC's on 205's before.

I'm not asking HOW TO just if anyone has any pictures of FMIC'd 205's.

Thanks!

Heres a pic of my friends 2.0 turbo

I know you asked for a 205 but heres my 309 and you would be able to do the same setup by lowering the radiator

So basically I'm going to have to cut holes for boost pipes to pass through no matter which way I do it.

I'm going to avoid going over the top of the radiator at all costs..

Mine lives behind the black grille in the bumper.

I don't know why you are set against going over the top of the rad, it works OK for me.

No you won't if you fit a (slightly adjusted) Cosworth i.c., like i did. With an original frontvalance it ain't a pretty sight, imho. But i used a 309 frontvalance.

I've gone over the radiator on previous vehicles and it usually ends up causing issues such as:

a) bonnet not closing properly
B) boost pipe grinding on radiator
c) radiator being damaged

Your job looks very tidy but I'd never manage to do it to that standard on my budget.

of course you could, all you need to do is drop the rad on a few brackets, or buy one of tom's brackets, fix off the shelf aftermarket fan to radiator or a fabricated bracket.

a. you will need bonnet pins or a strengthened slam panel.

b, that's just from poor workmanship/choice of parts.

c, as above.

I would not go under due to ground clearance and adding to boost pipe length.

As above, I made a stiffener strut to go from the slam panel down to the lower x-member. This is essential as otherwise the slam panel is too flexible and you can't latch the bonnet shut. With this strut it is solid.

I'd never ever go under the chassis, it's a bodge not to mention dangerous!

I think the best bet will be to whip the front end off and just have a play, take some measurements, trial fit the IC's I have lying about and try figure out what's best.

Probably best to cut some holes like stef205 and just run pipes through:

Otherwise I'll have a look at how I'd go about lowering the radiator but I don't really want to go that route (despite most of the 205's I've seen tending to route that way)!

The joys of having a crowded engine bay! ;)

Do you mean, like i did? stef205's intercooler is mounted at the same height. And it ain't dangerous

A shame that your budget is so less.... An other option was to built a handmade intercooler and handmade radiator, like i did with my Dimma. Ik had to do this, because the Dimma has aircondition (pump and extra radiator). So even less space. A disadvantage is that i had to cut out the frontvalance.

A cheaper solution is to mount the intercooler before your gearbox. You could use a Renault 5 turbo intercooler (max. 190~200 bhp). Have seen this before.

Or you could mount an intercooler above your engine, like a citroen bx turbodiesel. And use a hoodscoop for cold air. Not optimal and not so nice, but it's cheap and you don't have to lower your radiator or cut holes in your chassis :D

ahhh. So you can forget that option than, FireFly. Hahahaha.

maybe a 309 cup turbo intercooler, like this one:

Saw that before on a 205 (with t16 engine)

Calm down guys, too much bling in those bays!

What about a thick uprated SMIC designed for a VAG diesel turbo? Would sit nicely infront of gear box but would have naff all air flow (not that the TMIC has much either).

Another option is charge cooling but I've never read up on it and imagine it would cost a bomb!

An intercooler not in airflow may as well be called an interwarmer. If you are going to the effort of doing it then you may as well do it right.

My experience with VAG intercoolers is that they're wank! Plastic end tanks that blow off, rubbish.

You seem to be dwelling on the cost of a good set up and I'm not sure why. Even brand new universal intercoolers are relatively cheap. Get on eBay and you can get the bits to do a complete front mount intercooler set up for next to nothing. Using your brain cost sweet F.A ;)

All my stuff was new and it cost me around £100. You commented that toms looks expensive, I can assure you that you're wrong! Toms a tight arse Yorkshire swine! He's so tight he does all his welding in the dark to save on electricity! Well It looks like he does anyway?! :P

Only joking Tom, you know I can't weld for s*it! :D

Cossie cooler (think 4x4) does fit between the front lights but you may need to move the rad and use aftermarket fan, the gti twin fan and shroud takes up a lot of room that can be used.
