Mi16 Repeatedly Smashing Distributor Cap

Recommended Posts

macaroni

Hi,

for the 2nd time in 6 months one of the screws has come loose from the rotor arm and punched its way through the distributor cap.

Has anyone else suffered this and is there anything I can do to prevent it?

I daren't put loctite on the screws, or nip them too hard has they are a small allen key head and they already come with shake-proof washers.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Antony

Ive never had this problem as i dont own an mi16 but i havr heard of people using a little plumers tape on such things just to hold it in a bit better. This is of course if you dont want to lock tight it. Might be worth a shot

if the locking washers arn't holding it then i would put some loctite on it, or you will always have the same problem

I once did have this problem on the M1, the screws came loose and two had gone! Being stuck there without breakdown cover I got inventive and robbed a screw from one of the sunvisors of my 405, got me the rest of the 50 miles home.

Anyway, after that I loctited them never a problem again.

I'd wish mine would come loose a bit - mine are stuck and rounded.

Thanks for the replies.

I would use loctite, but I fear I will end up with Gentrix's problem. Maybe a tiny amount will be ok.

If you ever need to remove them then a bit of heat will help soften the Threadlock.

I use Loctite 222 for this application. It's not a full strength thread locker and will undo without heat. It's designed to stop small screws from vibrating loose!

Thanks guys, I went with a spot of medium strength thread lock. I'll check them at regular intervals too.
