205 Gti Steering Column Difference?

is there any difference in a phase 1 and phase 2 steering column regarding mounts for indicator stalks ect?

Yes they're slightly different to the later ones, easily recognisable as Ph1 items were black and later ones always seem to be gold/zinc plating coloured.

have found a couple of black ones on ebay but the brackets look slightly different in the way they are welded to the column to my d reg. maybe phase 1.5?

Yes i could well be wrong! As it happens;

 

Ph1.5> on the left, Ph1 on the right.

Looks like my memory deceives me again! The black ones on ebay do appear to be later ones!

there is a difference, its in the length of the clamp to the lower column.

309's might be different too, even thou people keep listing them as the same, I know I have both types at work which if I remember I can take a photo of tomorrow
