Dash/wiring Issues On Mi16

Recommended Posts

ross_mac1987

here i am again guys asking for some help/advice.

a while back i replaced my dash clock cluster due to the wiring on it being in a sorry state, i found another set on ebay in good condition so i set about swapping over all the dials so i could retain the original millage.

i dont know if that had anything to do with it but since then my battery light has stopped working. in a paniced state i swapped back the original clocks but the battery light has disappered altogether?

is there any wiring mods that have to be done on the Mi16 conversion that could have gone bad that i could check?

how does the battery light work?

another query... i checked my aternator (which is charging fine) but noticed no 'excite' wire? i.e no 12v feed to the alternator? am i being stupid?

the wiring on the car due to the engine change is not in good conditing and im thinking about replacing it. is there any made up out there or easy ways to do this?

any help appriciated

Ross

The excite wire on the dash is what controls the battery light, so if the wire is missing or unplugged then that would be why the light doesn't work. Is the wire definitely not just hanging loose near the alternator?

i thought maybe it was coincidental and the wire may of falled off etc but no wire near by anywhere!? unless it has snapped and a length of the wire has gone missing. i also thought the excite wire is what supplys the alternator to allow it to work? or am i being silly?

Ideally yes, but modern alternators will self-excite once you rev them a bit.
