Ford Fitment Wheels, Spacers And Spigot Rings

Recommended Posts

allye

Hey there!

I have some Ford fitment wheels I determined to use (Stef, shhhh) Mainly because they are super rare Oz 'Rally Race' motorsport items. The chap I got them from used 15mm spacers on his 306 to achieve the correct offset, I am going to go for this and see how I get on. I intend on using Ford fit spacers and a 1.7mm spigot rings to avoid machining anything (correct size spigot?) Obviously using hub centric spacers, can anyone see any issues with setup?

Secondly, wheel bolts. The car is fitted with some Compomotive MO5's at present so will the wheel bolts from these be suitable with the Oz wheels?

And lastly tyre size, they are 15x7 so I would need correct 205/309 aspect ratio and correct width something like 205/55/15?

Many thanks! Ali

You would need to check what centre bore the wheels are as standard Ford wheels have a smaller centre bore and you need adaptors/spaces that reduce the bore size from Pug to Ford. Also Ford spacers won't fit on a pug hub.

Tyre wise 195/50/15 should be fine.

What's happening with the Mo's? I've already wanted a set you see..

The chap i got them from actually fitted them to his 306 with ford spacers and a spigot ring so must be slightly larger (group A fitment)

The MO's are 16x7 and as new with some decent tyres on, again near new (over £1200 for the lot new) and will be for sale soon.

Also 195's on a 7j wheel?

195 50 will be fine in a 7x15 :) though a 205 will be better, also more suited to the 309 with that engine as it will be closer to its original intended tyre size, whether that will fit the rear arch I can't say.

Are the MO's currently with spacers and longer bolts? guessing they are standard taper seat? you need to check what type of seat the OZ wheels use, also measure the centre bore, will be smaller unless they are WRC afaik.

i have a set of 20mm spacers and long bolts for ford to pug alloys, you can try them if you want. also i have run 195's on all my old 15x7's no problem.

I am unsure of the taper at present, the bore is certainly larger as Eddiebeano from 306GTI6 had to use spigot rings, they may well be WRC wheels given the material of them and how rare they are! (I am having them checked and refurbed by a magnesium specialist) I will prob hang on till I lay eyes on them and can get some calipers on them to measure the bore so I do buy the correct spacers.

If they're proper grpA wheels they use big ass studs so you need special nuts to adapt them down to m12. I use these on my comp THs

I would guess such special nuts are not off the shelf items? A stud conversion would be easily done to overcome this/

You need to do a stud conversion aswell! I used pug to ford conversion studs (m12x1.25 hub to take m12x1.5 nuts) as the conversion nuts (in m12x1.5)are readily available off the shelf items ;) I got all my stuff from EARS (escort and rally spares) at Macclesfield.

My brothers got them at the minute I'll try and get him to post a pic up so you can see what I'm on about ;)

I'm only going off them being proper grpA ones, in the pictures the stud holes do look like they are. They usually have steel inserts pressed into them for the nut seats

To conclude this, with much help from Allenallen and WP. For Group A Ford fitment wheels you will require

-15-20mm spacer (depending on current offset) I have purchased conversion spacers from Peugeot bore of 65.1 to Ford bore of 63.4 on the hub of the spacers

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390335658179?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

-You then need to do a stud conversion using conversion studs to change the thread to ford size, m12x1.25 hub to take m12x1.5 nuts (quite long ones)

-finally some Group A conversion nuts as Group A wheel have big ass studs

I guess your were Skinny wheels off a FWD or 4x4 Ford, as those TH's were ET0, no spacers ;)

As well as all that, those TH's were missing the inserts.

If I were to use standard ford fit, non group A wheels with the adaptors, what bolts would I need to use?

depends very much on what thread type the spacer manufacturer has decided to use, it'll be either pug 1.25 pitch or ford 1.5 pitch, the ones linked to above says in the description to use pug thread.

If you are using a peugeot to ford conversion spacer then you will need to use peugot thread. As I had to purchase studs that convert the thread from Peugeot one end to Ford the other to use the Group A conversion nuts, but you wont have this problem.

Also to note, I had the rear spacers turned down 2mm either side of the spacer as the 7j wheels rubbed slightly on the outside arch (standard sizes tyres) Now they are perfect even with 4 people in the car. Of course this does depend on the offset of your wheels.
