Engine Upgrades.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

im a proud owner of a 205 1.9 gti! She's done about 124000 miles and im thinking of have it stripped and re-built! Whilst i was gonna have this done i was wondering what upgrades i could do to make it faster/run better! I dont think i could afford going down the turbo route (not that i'd know how much that would cost anyhow) so any advice or examples of the upgrades you lot have made would be most welcome!

Cheers.

have a go with the search engine! it does work pretty well.

To get power you are going to have to spend money.. simple as that really.

XU10 heads work well from what i have heard.

16v conversion

turbo

throttle bodies and camshafts.

Aftermarket ECU such as emerald or DTA is wise for turbo conversions, and required for ITBS.

Welcome to the forum !

Well , i made an modified fast road 1.9 8v , and really cheap (cos i did all job by myself , and i had the parts which i needed to do so ..)

1. 1.9 D6B gas flowed head with multiple cut valve seats (all new valve guides , valve lifters , adjusted valve clearances ..)

2. 1.9 DFZ pistons (used)

3. new piston rings , crank bearings , honed liners , lightened bottom end ..

4. 1.6 flywheel

5. modified inlet manifold and throttle body

6. modified/re-curved distributor

7. WB lambda sensor fitted and air/fuel mixture adjusted

8. adjustable fuel pressure valve

9. one deg. colder spark plugs

10. custom gearbox

11. custom made exhaust

.. the end result is something like a mix of turbocharged and 16v engine !

IMHO, if tuning then forget the 8v engine, and yes I do have a tuned 8v! Basically it costs too much to get power from the 8v compared with fitting a 16v nad once the 16v is fitted you then have tuning potions to play with to take it even further.

And get saving and do what I did, sit and wait for someone selling a finished engine ready to slot in, nice and cheap.

I found a 2.0l 8v (maybe 2.1 but unsure) with piper cam, mass racing head, weber 45s, arp bolts lightweight flywheel, stainless 4branch ~186bhp for £600

Saves alot of thinkering
