A Question For The Suspension Experts

Recommended Posts

feb

I decided to have a spare set of OEM KYB inverted monotube dampers from a Forester STi dynoed in order to have a benchmark before we start playing with their valving with a friend of mine.

I sent them at corneringforce and Simon did a great job.

He mentioned that the dampers have a reasonable shape to the force/velocity curve and would be ok for the road but to get something more track orientated then you would want to push the knee towards 1-2”/sec and have more low speed damping.

I would then also look to reduce the rebound high speed damping.

Does anyone know whether doing the above will compromise ride quality on bumpy B roads a lot?

The car is perfect swallowing bumps of B roads and feels very planted (in fact dare I say as planted as my SBC 205 was!) at the moment but I wouldn't mind it a little stiffer for when being on track, albeit without compromising ride quality if this is possible.

The black curve is the rear damper.
