Are All 205 Fan Switches The Same?

As I've discovered a leaking radiator, I'm going to change the fan switch and hoses as well. Does anyone know if all the 205 fan switches are the same? Mine is a J reg 1.6.

There are two main variations, early and late. Early have female spade connectors arranged in a "U" shape, late have a Junior-Power-Timer arrangement with three pins in a row.

You should have the later type.

 

Then the temperatures they switch at are denoted by a coloured band on the sensor, there are many variations. Standard GTI has a red band and has always worked fine for me.

All the 'in row' switches on eBay appear to be two prongs like this:

Personally if the old one was working on both speeds as it should, I'd just transfer it over. If it does pack up in the future, its an easy enough 10 min job to change it for a new one with the radiator in situ.

No, they use a copper washer.

Sorry to hijack, but are the Resistors all the same?

There's one for the Head lights and one for the fan.

Mine came with one missing, but I have a spare but I don't know if there's a difference between them?

They both fit in each of the brown plugs on the loom.
