Servicebox Dimensions

Having a bit of a problem getting bolts to fit my pas pump and alternator to my gti-6 engine bracket.

I took the drawings and parts list with dimensions with me to a bolt & fastners place and the guys there didn't have a clue what they meant.

For instance 4007 N7 - Shaft Screw - DIAM 8x125-27

We took it as M8 125mm long is that correct? What's the 27 bit mean?

Also on the alternator part theres 2 big long bolts to hold it 6921 49 - HEX HEAD CAPSCREW - DIAM 10X150-85

We took it as M10 150mm long is that correct? Whats the 85 bit mean is it the shank/unthreaded area of the bolt?

The bracket at the bottom is about 12-15mm thick and according to service box use the exact same bolts to hold it onto the block M10 150 but i've got M6 (13mm) bolts in there about 2-3 inch long.

Don't mean to sound thick but somethings not right somewhere. None of the bolts i got fit right apart from the tensioners that have M6 (13mm) bolts i just got 50mm long and will grind em down to length.

i'm pretty sure i'm correct in saying, that 8x125-27 is 8mm size, with pitch of thread 125, and length of 27mm

No idea its got me baffled especially with the diagram showing the alternator mounting bolts being the same as the lower bracket mounting bolts which they clearly arent bloody peugeot designs :(

i've just had a look on servicebox, and all seems pretty well explained

for definate, the 1st number = metric size, 2nd number = pitch of thread, and 3rd number = length of bolt

You got it all a bit topsy turvy.

First off, M6 thread hex bolts are 10mm head, M8 are 13mm, M10 are 17mm, M12 are 19mm. Apart from some Peugeot bolts which are M10 16mm head, M12 18mm head.

Standard pitches (distance measured from one peak of the thread to the next one), are M6 = 1mm, M8= 1.25mm, M10=1.50mm, M12=1.75mm.

To interpret the servicebox sizes, 8x125-80 means it is an M8 bolt, 1.25mm pitch (distance measured from one peak of the thread to the next one), 80mm long.

+1 Where the second number is 125, you have to assume the decimal point i.e. 1.25mm pitch
