Tu1 Oil Leak Source? Gearbox End Of Head

Recommended Posts

TooMany2cvs

Yesterday saw a "failure to proceed" as the thermostat-to-heater-matrix hose decided that it wasn't up to containing hot coolant any longer. Turns out that it was fairly well oil-soaked, somewhere underneath the coil.

So what's the most likely cause of a leak there? It doesn't leave any spots on the ground, and very rarely needs topping up, despite 145k on the clock.

I've gotta pull the rocker cover off and gap the tappets up - they're getting a bit audible - so a new cover gasket's on the list. Any other likelies? I've not had the inclination/opportunity to rip the filter plumbing off and have a look yet, but when I did the clutch a few weeks back, I don't remember seeing anything particularly damp.

(Sod's law - I have a new(ish) replacement for that self-same hose sat ready to go on, after a buggered clip saw it wear a groove from the gearchange rods...)

Rocker cover is a good start

Rubber O ring on dizzy? Can leak oil if they go hard and dry

Water in that area can only really be the hose you mentioned and the dizzy/thermostat housing both easy fixes
