Waterpump Bolt Threads In Mi16 Block.

Recommended Posts

yorkshirekowboy

Hello, Im thinking over two years ago I replaced my water pump on my mi16 alloy block engine, but the person who had it before must have crossed threaded the threads for the bolts for the waterpump. I managed to replace the pump etc and tighten the bolts but a couple were really stiff when going in and tightening. Can these be repaired in the future

Regards

Danny

you can clean the threads. if you cant you can either helicoil them or open them to a larger thread.

If they're just stiff, then merely running an M7x1 tap through to clean it up should sort it out.

If they're stripped then it's more of an issue, but if you were able to tighten them correctly last time then it should be OK.

Well I did it over 2 years ago so its holding up, I didn't want to disturb the threads as the engine was in the car so I just replaced the pump and tightened. When I replace the pump again I will check it out in more detail as its now my spare car. Cheers
