Body Trim, Paint Black Or Red?

Recommended Posts

Karl

hi there people just a quick thought as my body trim is certainly showing its age and back to black is simpley not cutting it was hoping to gather some opinions on whether to :

- paint the trim black to keep it original looking and add a bit of shine
- paint the trim red to 'colour code' it to my car

any other suggestions welcome just wanting to gather some opinions as to what to do as im in two minds and dont have a preference. id just like too see what other enthusiats prefer the look of

cheers,

Karl

Having seen the results a year or two down the line if the prep hasn't been 100% I wouldn't personally paint them at all, at least, certainly not black.

If it's purely that you want them looking as-new again with a long lasting finish, just use Plasticare on them.

Does exactly what it says on the tin and lasts months/years. If you do a search, you'll find plenty about it, incluidng a before and after comparison I did :)

On a Cherry Red GTI, I would absolutey NOT colour code the trims red. It'll look gash. I think that only works well on darker metallics.

If you smooth the trims (remove the grain) and paint them a nice shade of black/charcoal, maybe satin finish, or maybe with a slight metal flake, that would look kewl.

This is mine but like the others have said maybe cherry red wont look right , if that plastic care does not work give them a good once over in black and they look fine

i supose you're right harryskid although there is no right and wrong as to what to do in this case, its down to personal preference, although i have no preference on what to do i just like to gather opinions see what ideas other people have and see whats been done so i can get a good idea and decide on what id like to do next :)
