Gti Hubs.....what Brakes

Recommended Posts

jamie_1992

both the front wheel bearings need replacing on my xs i can do these for around £20 a side

but i was thinking about upgrading to a gti hub (well im asuming they will be an upgrade as its a gti)

i was going to fit 1.6 hubs so i can still use my driveshafts

i currently have gti brakes on my base hubs, will these fit ok on gti hubs (not sure if they are different between the 1.6 or 1.9)

i also want to know if i decide to upgrade to gti6 brakes in the future will they fit the 1.6 hubs ok or do they need to be 1.9

thanks in advance

also if i where to fit 1.9 hubs and driveshafts would they fit my gearbox ok

You can use 205 GTi brakes providing that you use 1.6 GTi disks (you'll currently be running 1.9 GTi brakes)

You won't be able to run GTi-6 brakes or most other common late model swaps - for these, you need either base model or 1.9 hubs.

oh god, this has been covered SOOOOO many times recently.

personally, just stick new bearings in what you already have.

Also, if that's £20 supply and fit for bearings, I'd seriously question what quality they're going to be - cheap bearings are usually a false economy.

If they're the £20 vetech bearings I'm thinking of, don't bother seriously! Had a set fail on me in less than 2k miles

Many other similar stories I've heard also

Sdl do SKF bearings very cheap

Leave it on base model hubs and all 306 brakes will fit.

1.9 Gti and base model hubs are the same bar the gti takes a bigger shaft ooo arrrr!!

Gti hubs wouldn't be an upgrade.

If you are converting to an xu engine you could use 1.9 gti hubs and driveshafts or keep your base model hubs and 1.6 gti driveshafts
