Brand New Starters - Where From? What Make?

Recommended Posts

kyepan

Hi there,

My new (less than a year old) starter appears to have lunched itself, after my girlfriend tried to start the car against a kerb in gear.

It sounds like the bearings have let go, in addition to having trouble withdrawing the solonoid, so all in all, a bit broken.

Where should i get a new (not reconditioned one ) from, XU.

Cheers

J

Didn't realise you can still get new ones - Pug directly maybe?

Why not recon (I mean, recon is as good as new in all the main concerns - motor windings, bearings, bushes - who gives a toss about the casting and casing, even though every one I've bought has always looked as good as new anyway!)?

servicebox lists "new" at £280, could be bosch ducellier or valeo, or an exchange item at £113, both have a surcharge but I dont think this is much, something I have heard also is that the exchange items are new units as not many, if any at all get sent back for remanufacturing.

If its less than a year old & was brand new when fitted, isn't it covered under the 12 month manufacturers warranty?

probably, but i'm a bit slap dash at keeping receipts.. tbh i can't remember where i got it from!

So bosch or valeo then... ECP ok for this?

should i be aiming for a 306 xsi starter, or other?

thanks guys

XUD starter, get a valeo unit and it will probably see out the cars final years.

personally, if you can get hold of a 306 gti6 starter, then get one of them fitted.

a lot slimmer to fit aswell
