Quick update I have had a few weeks not working on the 205 due to making wiring looms for a very special Ford Anglia. This thing has £5000 worth of Toovey hot rod race engine, Tranx gearbox, five linked rear end and lots of other cool stuff. The car belongs to frend who owns and runs his own body shop and the deal is when I have finished stripping the 205 he will paint it for me. A labour for labour swap.

I had an hour back on my car yesterday and managed to burn out my angle grinder removing old seam sealer. Just ordered a new one.

Been removing the interia paint and seam sealer.

The Roll cage feet are being welded in soon and because I once painted the interia with rattle cans I now need to remove the paint so that the new paint has a good surface to key to.

Roll cage foot being welded in. Decided to go with thicker plate that is tapped out with the centre cut out to allow for extra weld. My mate is tig welding them in for me. Also got a out of date seat out of gt race car just needs a new centre cushion.

I am a bit fed up as I have just had an operation on my shoulder. Which means I have 6 weeks off work but due to wearing a sling I cannot get on the car. :(

Little update time.

While I have been convalescing I have not been able to do much. But a good mate of mine has been round and done a few jobs for me and I have also had plenty of time to research stuff that I want to do.

I am planning on fitting a pedal box and there for I do not need the servo and vac pump. So I have decided to remove the vac pump and blank the hole off. This was when I found out that the exhaust cam has a drilling to allow oil to be feed to the vac pump via a short tube and a small re-stricter. See photo.

So a quick message to our friendly engine guru (Sandy Brown) it was agreed that this hole in the end of the cam should be blanked of to prevent the end bearing running dry.

My mate has access to a lathe and he turned me up a stepped piece of aluminium so that we can work out what size the blanking plug needs to be.

Next job it to sort out the planking plate which my mate has also turned up a blanking plug for.

Some updates to come I have been busy and also been doing some diy powder coating with really good results.

Right up date time.

I have been busy welding in the mounting plates and nuts for the harness eye bolts and generally welding up all the seat mounts to give them some more strength.

My mate has turned me up the parts to blank of the exhaust cam oil way and blank the hole for where the vac pump was. Just got to make a plate to hold the bung in place.

I have also spent what feels like weeks removing the old seam sealer under seal from underneath. This has been a horrible job due the fact that a few years ago I sprayed the underside with black wax oil under seal.

I have found out the best way to get it of is get it hot with a blow torch and scrap off as much as possible. Then give it the course wire wheel in the angle grinder treatment.

Another mate has also lent me his powder coating kit and it is a great bit of kit. Just need to sort out an oven big enough to put a rear beam in. There is also some really sexy colours available.

I don't envy you having had to clean off all that underseal, paint etc... truly hateful job, and probably even worse if it was covered with waxoyl too!

 

One thing I would say is that it might be worth taking the opportunity to sort out the seat mounts properly if you're fitting buckets - the standard ones are really quite weak and you might find that you are sat too high with your head too close to the rollcage. I can see that you've done some strengthening to the inner front holes, but have you done the outer fronts as these are notorious for cracking and eventually pulling the captive nut through.

Thanks Anthony the under seal has all gone now and yes it is a hateful job. It was also covered in black wax oil under seal. Glad that jobs done. I found that a blow torch is your friend on that job.

I have fully weld around the seat mounts and strengthened the front cross piece with some flat strip but I am still contemplating ripping it all out and putting in some box sections for the seat runners though.

Right up date time.

Got some proper welding gas and it make a big difference to the neatness of the welds.

Cleaned the boot floor and washed it down with thinners. FE123ed the seams and etch primed it all.

Little update. After several hours of paint stripping, then jet washing, then washing down with thinners, over the last few weeks.

I had the day off work today and managed to finish seam welding the engine bay.

Cleaned up the welds, Sand blasted any rust, Washed down with thinners and scotchbrite, FE123 any rusty bits, etch primed and seam sealed. Note I have got a spray able seam sealer gun coming to spray over the seams to give it that stippled finish.

Only got the underside, front half of the interior and the wheel arches to finish cleaning up and priming and then it can go for paint.

My new Polly windows came today as well.
