Did the engine go thru a dry build to check the valve clearance? If not then I'd not run it

I've spoken to my mechanic and he's told me he's going to be cutting out the pistons if i choose to go for high lift cams but with the 264s it doesn't need them.

The tuning industry feeds on bulls*it power claims. Realistically you will have around 180bhp. No mistake that's fast and will embarrass plenty of cars on the road.

Very true!! Not to be scoffed at is that kind of power in something as small and light as a GTI!!

more like, plunk tinkle tinkle.

no but seriously, the six engines run very... very tight valve clearance at TDC.

Jake

Get your pistons cut to accept the duration of the cams and avoid valve to piston contact.Once you have this is done I cant see any reason as to why you wont get 200 bhp plus you have got 48 mm carbs that will give you more bhp than 45mm carbs and 45 mm TB's due to them flowing more air.Just make sure whoever you choose to set up your carbs and tunes your car knows what they are doing.Good luck and I hope you achive your desired figures of 200 bhp plus

Oh dear. You clearly have absolutely no idea what you are talking about!

Any carb is governed by the size of the choke that's fitted.

I'd suggest you stop offering advice and making yourself look silly.

It also won't give you any more bhp if the rest of the engine can't flow enough anyway.

And 48mm carbs can take a bigger choke size than a 45 mm so I suggest you stop making unessasry comments unless you know what your talking about. The post is titled how much bhp do you think ill get.All your input so far has not had no relation to the post at all and has mainly been off topic.

So if you dont mind can you please keep any personal comments to yourself or send me a pm otherwise you run the risk of making yourself look silly.Appologies in advance Baz if this quote has offended or insulted you in anyway.

Has mentioned earlier he has had his head gas flowed and polished to include 3 angle valves etc.So depending on how well the head has been done should give more airflow.

Not really, your talking a few percent maybe, cam is fairly mild, no high revs to take advantage of...

Ok! And even so, if you really want to get into it; oversizing the choke will only decrease air pressure and ergo decrease air going in and therefore the power that will come out. It's a 2litre, a 45mm carb with even the biggest chokes they could have would give more than enough. In fact i'd go as far as saying the 48's will be too big with even the smallest chokes!

Of course its all on topic. You can't offend me and it's nothing personal at all so I don't really know what you're getting at!

How weird is it putting carbs on a GTi6 anyway. Considering you have to fit mapped ignition anyway, you may as well go the whole hog and fit TB's. A GTi6 is setup to do sequential fuel and direct ignition. Why not take advantage of it?

Pretty sure we invented it and the Aussies just copied :P

Told you about the cams Jake! You just can't run anything other than standard without internal work. Pretty sure you'll see more power than standard, use a load more fuel though, I used to get over 40mpg out of that engine.

I can see it now.

"You have 2hrs to make 200hp from 1998cc. You can use any of the parts on the shelf. But here's the twist. It has to get 40mpg and idle at 850rpm. You have just 1:59 left to have it bolted up to the dyno. Get started!"

You can use a Dizzy on them, I have a Rally car running like this and it makes a mere 175bhp but he does;t know wiring or electronics so simple is the way for him, Not my idea but it does sort of work

But 45mm carbs will have enough flow for 225+ hp so putting 48's will make no difference.

If its properly built, setup and mapped you might see 180-190.

Mines about 225-230hp and the bottom end probably cost me 2,500.

the cams are 264 so aren't high lift... is that correct ? if i manage to find some extra funds then i'll get some high lift 285 piper cams and then yes i will need the additional internal work.
