Sunroof Trim 'silver' Edging?

Recommended Posts

scottbarton

Hi all....on my sunroof glass edging it looks a very weathered kind of silver. On some pics of other cars i have seen that its more of a black colour.

Has anyone tried to restore this? I am guessing that it was a darker colour at some point but 22 years of weather conditions has bleached it.

Same on mine. Depending on the type of plastic Plasticare may be able to dye it.

Factory off it should be black. I restored it, when my car was in a rebuilding process after a paintjob. Just painted them (Motip Matt) black again.

If I were you, I would just masking it. Chances are that you damage the rooftrim during disassembly, if you've never done it before.

I replaced all the plastic roof trim assemby a little while back so am pretty comfortable with the way it comes off. Will have to have a look to see how to best get at the metal strip on either side. Wonder if a black smooth hammerite type paint would do the trick?

Nope, I knew what you meant, but I never thought that part was metal. Mine has separated from the glass so when you slide the roof back, and then slide it forward to close it, this part stays in place towards the back of the roof. So I've fiddled it with plenty of times and always thought it was thick plastic.

Hmm...interesting. I had a closer look tonight and am pretty sure it's a form of metal, possibly aluminium. I tried a bit of plasticare but it does not apply properly.

Someone must of successfully touched this up?
