What do you all recommend as a good tyre for my 205 GTI6 track/road car ? They'll be going on my speedlines ! I was thinking Toyo R888 ??

This is a question that's asked every week, the answers pretty much remain the same.

- the main rule of thumb is to get familiar and use the search function. most of
the technical questions you may want to ask have most probably been asked
and answered several times by now.

888's aren't that good and have soft sidewalls, they only gained notoriety as a list 1B tyre because they were cheaper than others, they're not anymore and you're better off getting ones that do the job properly, Yoko A048, Dunlop Direzzas DO2G, DZ03's etc.

then make a sticky. If people keep asking, the info isn't there.

Can said people not search rather than relying on stickies?

On another note, are Michelin not going to replace the PE2 with something similar? Since i am still very happy them.

The Pilot Sport 2 has been replaced by the Pilot Super Sport, albeit I am not sure they make it in 195/50.

If it is a track/dry tyre you are after the Yokohama AD08 has excellent reviews.

Given that you state road and track, I would seriously consider going for a more road bias tyre if you're going to be using it predominantly on the road and in all weathers. Track bias tyres like R888's typically don't deal well with any notable standing water, have high wear rates, and getting and maintaining sufficient heat in them on the road to make them work at their best isn't that easy during the colder (and even warmer) months of the year.

Road tyres of choice for me are Michelin PE2's as mentioned, Hankook S1 Evo's and Falken 912's - all work well, although the PE2's are the better road tyre. As above, a search will reveal plenty as this is a frequently asked question.

unfortunately not it seems, not unsurprising but bloody annoying.

the super sport is a Very high performance tyre, Porsches and suchlike, PE2 has been replaced by the PS3 in larger sizes, there are no plans to do a 195 50, 185 55 or 195 55.

The Yoko AD08 seems to be marketed as a road tyre capable of doing track work, similar to the Pilot Supersport.

I suppose 195/50/15 is not the high demand size it once was. I'm not in need of tyres for a while yet but i may end up going back to uniroyal RS2's or maybe give the Hankook S1's a go but i'll cross that bridge as and when.

The Hankook S1 Evos are almost as good as the PE2 but with the added benefit of stiffer sidewalls.

I guess the A509 will be 9 year old now and the compound will be rock solid so be careful expecially on the wet they will be lethal.

I would rather drive on fresh ling longs than 9 year old ditchfinders.

might go through a test buit I wouldnt bet on them being any good for anything other than keeping the rims off the tarmac

FFS That's bollocks, if they've been stored out of the cold/UV rays & elements and aren't perished they'll be fine after taking a top layer off them.

toyo R1R's.

Excessively soft sidewalls and prohibitive price compared to its competitors, have you tried them? I haven't personally but the Rally car I service for has, and we don't now..

Just wondering if the people who have the pe2's use the h or v speed rating and if it really makes any difference? Cheers
