Daily Use? 205 Gti

You're a brave man leaving that out in the drive. You seen the amount of these that get stolen every month?

It goes back in the garage most of the time tbh. If it's left out overnight it's trapped in by other cars anyway. :D

Got my car taxed and MOTd yesterday, must have driven at least 100 miles! It is great, so good on fuel.

First commute in it tomorrow, looking forward to it.

So I have been using it now for about a month and am loving every minute of it, so much so the Porsche has not had a look in.

I had forgotten how nimble the 205 GTi is, it has great initial pick up compared to its main 80's/90's rival the Renault 5 GT Turbo but does not have the pace once the Renault gets on boost.

As some have said, the 1.6 does rev high at motorway speeds but I can live with that. I actually feel excited to get up in the morning in the week knowing I get to drive it to work, sad I know but true. I can't think of another car that I have felt like that about since I began driving to 6th form in one almost 14 years ago!

The michelin pilot sport 2 tyres offer truly excellent grip in the wet and dry, much better than the Yokohamas (A539?) I used to run the 1.9 on all those years ago.

I intend to put mine back into use as a daily at the start of April. Been on SORN the last 2 months while i tidied a few bits up including the sump and to save driving it in all the crappy weather. Looking forward to getting back into the driving seat again as although using my stripped out saxo has its uses in some cases, in others it's not the best thing being deafened by a straight though exhaust while doing 70 odd on the motorway lol

Their great Arnt they. Your looks so clean

I used my 1.6 for 6 months all trough the winter never once got stuck in the snow when most were. And now use my GTI6 205 as a daily. It's hard loud thirsty but I utterly love it. Get exited every time I drive it.

I was desperate for a black one, but I found a steel grey one and fell for it. I think it's a lovely colour actually. :D

It is. And the green themed interior is classier to my taste. It is exactly how mine looked 5 years ago. It just nudges me to get the dodgy paintwork on mine seen to.

I have a steel Grey 1.9, and it has been my daily Driver for about 3 years now.

I've done about 30,000 miles in that time and apart from the ABS throwing a hissy fit, and a swap to a worked on cylinder head, it has been perfectly reliable.

My only gripes were the exhaust noise on the motorway which has been fixed by a genuine exhaust, and the need to put it back to standard ride height now I live in London :-(

As everyone has said, keep on top of the preventative maintenance and I'm sure you won't regret it!

I'm not bothered about the noise myself. I'm pretty deaf in one ear and the other one is on the way out too!

Been using mine daily for the last month as I have lent my other car out, other than the heating not getting to temp as quick as I would like its great.

Looks a dirty bugger tho.

Still get nice comments from people, mostly saying I had one of these when I was younger.

Speaking of comments from other people, i pulled into a petrol station the other day and just as i was leaving a guy in one of these;

said "Nice car mate, love it!" about my dented, tappy, slightly rusty 80's peugeot.

WTF!!?

I had the same sort of thing this morning. Stopped to fill up and saw the guy at the pump behind me looking at the car. As I was paying for the fuel he just stopped me for a chat "Nice car mate, just been admiring it. I had one myself in 1989, loved it!". Moments like that make me it worthwhile!

Used mine daily for years for everything. Even with all the usual niggles cropping up over time, it's still great fun...

I wouldn't swap it for the world... well maybe an RS4...

Back daily driving my standard 1.9 this week, and it's great - there really is something quite joyful about cruising along in a 205 with the morning sun shining through the open sunroof, knowing full well that you can take the long, twisty way home later just... well, just because you can.

I had a guy in a Audi R8 (really nice deep black shine to it) give me the thumbs up from behind at some traffic lights and I originally thought, as he was moving to the right of me, that he was going to do something stupid and try a pass when the lights went green, but he just wanted to view the car from the side. Gave the car the beans when the lights changed to show him it wasn't all looks and he came alongside at the next set of lights and told me he used to have one and how mine looked classy! V.chuffed. People definitely give me respect in the 205, idiots think it's an old banger and give me room, other people know what it is and give me respect and people who see me in a small car think I'm poor and let me out of turns, because they pity me.

My car wasn't treated well by the previous couple of owners, so it certainly has issues. But I love it and it rewards me by having the power to get into the smallest gaps at the busy motorway roundabout on the way back from work.
